There was a wee lad, maybe 8 or 9, busting absolute moves to the tannoy music in the bus station. Each song had unique choreography made up on the fly. The boy was in the pocket and a hairs breadth from pro quality. Folks just let him get on with it until his mam called him for the bus. 🙂 🕺

Spent long enough at sea to be firmly Team Calcite: found in shells, fossils & the lenses of trilobite eyes! Vikings used Iceland spar to polarize light & find sun on a cloudy day to navigate. Sure opals are pretty but calcite also gets the art vote. Carved since ancient Egyptian times. #MinCup23

My linocut nautilus print in burgundy on white paperThis is one of my series of prints of one of the ubiquitous and wildly successful trilobites, prehistoric creatures which lived for hundreds of millions of years, carved by hand in linoleum, printed onto lovely Japanese washi papers and collaged with papers in different colours. This trilobite was a Cheirurus ingricus which lived during the Late Cambrian through the Early Devonian era. This print is on charcoal coloured paper with imbedded fibres, with the trilobite headed down towards the right corner with front and back on speckled sand coloured paper. Sometimes I see Big D outside the Dracula Experience in Whitby when I'm getting a donut from AJs. He asks how the tours are going and makes the same joke about how he's a fossil. Always a chill dude except for the time that Belmont fella turned up with his whip.
