Highly successful tour today. It was booked last minute. It was sunny but windy and when the wind changed direction the tide came rushing in. But we still found two all timer #ammonites a Peronoceras with spines attached, and a rare Pseudolyoceras. #geology #paleontology #Whitby
I've decided to name these custom variants as "Bumstreaker" and "Sunjacker".
Some say I've gone too far. But I say not far enough! Customising ER #wheeljack and #sunstreaker into my take on diaclone Exaust and Spinout, respectively. I like how the *slightly* smaller bumper head make the sunstreaker bod look extra buff. #transformers #maccadam #TransformerToys

This whole thread is fire. I too was that kid who was told I was lazy, stupid, not worth help. I lost at least a decade of life because of that. I still struggle because of that stigma. The PI I filed a complaint against last year used it against me. The lable gave me understanding of myself #AuDHD
1. The independent Taskforce — commissioned by NHS England, backed by government — concluded ADHD is under-diagnosed, under-recognised and under-treated in the UK. Not over. The press has reported the reverse of the finding www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...
This #FossilFriday is brought to you by the #Ediacaran animals of #Newfoundland. The oldest staurozoan cnidarian #Mamsetia manunis, its younger better preserved cousin #Haootia quadriformis and the 551 Ma stem #ctenophore #Edrathina obditchia alongside the candidate poriferans Thectardis & Lydonia.
This is super interesting work that I had no idea about. That's a lot of fluid moving a lot of dissolved material, and who knows what microbial life. Imagine how something like this would work on Archean Earth where the thermal gradients are higher!
I just *love* how the ORIGINAL observations of this phenomenon get ignored every time this gets posted. *WE* observed this originally in December 2013 on Dorado outcrop off Costa Rica with JASON. We then went back in 2014 and saw it again with Alvin. Predating the MBNMS dives by 5+ years.
Also labour from the people mining rare Earth minerals, the people in the Global South who toil to clean the data and supervise models live as human-in-the-loop, the people building/ cleaning data centers... the labour theft is so extensive it's not realistic that this would have been feasible.
This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
Very interesting work. Makes sense with what I see in the precambrian with the exceptional preservation of fine scale structures in my fossils. They probs didn't have collagen but would have had something equivalent.
I'm incredibly excited to share our recent paper, "Temporal heterogeneity in the animal fossil record driven by proliferation of microbial collagenases", is now available in Current Biology! 📄: doi.org/10.1016/j.cu... 📸: www.cam.ac.uk/research/new... 🧪 (1/8)
@saralilplants.bsky.social Interesting work. Comes back to our conversation about what counts as an individual.

You laugh. But do you know how upsetting it is when you spot natural stone facings where some clown has placed a stone upside down and you can tell because the cross lamination is upside down!? But all the other stones are the right way up!!!!!!1!!one

How very disappointing of Oxford. Good on the staff calling out this ill advised move. bsky.app/profile/theg...

Is anyone better qualified than me to answer this? Where are my geo morphology pals at?
So my question is: is this possible, naturally? Natural tunnels & caves are made by water going downhill right, so how could there be some *under* the sea? Even if the sea level rose you'd expect them to fill with seawater, no? It's supposed to be in Cornwall AFAIK if that helps (probably not lol)
Based on my observations along the rest of the coast, and some reading, I think the mystery unit at Siccar Point is weathered and eroded early Devonian volcanics.
So, I noticed something interesting in this view of the unconformity. There's an extra unit of rock between the Old Red and the greywacke visible in the cliff that is not present in the classic view of the outcrop. See diagram and alt text. 1/x #Geology

Many people who I knew at Oxford shared this mentality. The idea that wealth and privilege are a reward for hard work and talent, and that being low income/ working class /from a deprived background was a choice.
🧵Kemi Badenoch's comments that people earning over £100,000 a year are somehow “punished” for working harder is deeply troubling when discussing free childcare provision. It risks implying that higher earners work harder than people on much lower salaries, many of whom work incredibly
