Mom (82), lost her license due to vision loss, and sold her can a year ago. I (foolishly perhaps) believed her when she said she'd cancelled her insurance. I found out that her insurance was still active a couple of months ago. I told them to cancel it. They insisted on seeing POA which I sent. ...

August 4 is International Owl Awareness so I am sharing my parliament! 🧪🐡 The delightful term for a group of owls is a parliament. I love the whimsical terms of venery for groups of animals and this is part of my ongoing series of linocut terms of venery prints. For my parliament of owls I made two

For my linocut parliament of owls I made two columns of local owls - like government an which the loyal opposition in this parliament in a tree printed in black against a dark grey evening sky! It reads “A parliament of owls” in gothic lettering and the word Owl is made with an eye and feathers. Right to left and top to bottom the owls are: Northern saw-whet, Eastern screech, Barred, long-eared, Barn and Great Horned owl. They are printed in shades of brown on white chine collé paper on the grey background.

Struggling to help Mom (82) get access to books since she’s loosing her vision and has memory issues. We have managed to get her asking Siri to play audiobooks but it can’t manage to run Libby with voice commands alone and she can’t see well enough to do it through touch. Buying books adds up.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. When I was making cyanotypes at the lake with my son I said, “I wonder what a fish cyanotype would be like? Like if we just found a dead fish, because you couldn’t safely keep a live fish out of the water long enough…” 🐡 My son thought it an odd idea but he went out in the canoe with his father

As described this is a small signed cyanotype of a pumpkinseed fish. The photochemicals are painted on with some visible brushstrokes. The some hints of structures like fins and scales in pale yellow-grey within the soft white silhouette of the fish against the Prussian blue.

The 12yo is interested in #Smaugust, a month of drawing dragons, named in honour of Smaug, from The Hobbit. He couldn’t find a prompt list which really inspired him so he made his own. I am sharing it here in (complete with his illustration!) case you want to play along.

My son’s pencil drawing shows a large winged dragon climbing a rock wall next a tiny dragon. There is a typed list of 31 prompts and title “Smaugust 2026”. The prompts are: 1. Archaic 2. Earth 3. No power this morning. Had to shower in the dark, go coffee-less and convince my child that raw fruit was as good as toast for breakfast. But I dropped him at camp, got myself a latte, walked through the park and watched a family of 3 red tailed hawks. (Bad photo but it was like magic)

This is a unique hand made cyanotype on watercolour paper (11" x 14") with an image of various alliums and dandelions which have gone to seed. Each have seeds radiating from a stem like exploding fireworks. 🧵

As described this is a unique hand made cyanotype on watercolour paper (11" x 14") with an image of various alliums and dandelions which have gone to seed. I have embellished this with two of my linocut of native moths species: a virgin tiger moth and white underwing.

This weekend I took the 12yo to a favourite local independent bookstores & got him some graphic novels & was very excited to find they had @chanda.blacksky.app Dr Chanda Prescod-Weinstein’s new book, ‘The Edge of Space-Time - Particles, Poetry, and the Cosmic Dream Boogie’! This never gets old: 🐡🧪
