My op-ed on Meta's FOUR gas plants to power its data center in New Albany, Ohio. Meta is building so many gas plants that it left the RE100, a corporate renewable energy pact.
Natural gas powering Meta's New Albany 1,150 MW Prometheus data center will come from Ohio public lands in Appalachia. If Google can power a data center on renewable energy, why can't Meta? Opinion. @ccbecker271.bsky.social @dispatch.com: bit.ly/4rm7pLf @ssteingraber1.bsky.social
It's a good start. Do the right thing, JBIC!
In May, community leaders from Freeport, TX confronted the Japanese financiers of a dirty, risky liquified natural gas (LNG) project. 💥✊Now, one of the project’s biggest backers, JBIC, is launching an investigation into the Freeport LNG project. bit.ly/4cuO70b
Hey Canada Pension Plan ... this will STILL turn Ohio's state parks and wildlife areas into a fracking sacrifice zone. Where do you think the gas is coming from for these gas plants? Here's an idea: Invest in something that actually helps people, not harms them.
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) is making a risky bet on gas to power the build-out of data centres for AI -- contradicting its own Climate Change Principles, crowding-out renewable energy, and locking-in carbon pollution for decades. #cdnpoli

If Oklahoma can do it, why aren't more states cracking down on Big Insurance? By challenging Allstate and State Farm's allegedly unfair claims handling practices, AG Gentner Drummond is opening the door to a broader crackdown. His counterparts elsewhere have no excuse to sit on the sidelines. 🧵⬇️

Forgive me mom for the blasphemy, but this is a goddamn murder-for-hire machine. At scale.
Oregon's senators are demanding the CFTC crack down on prediction markets that let people bet on wildfires — warning the practice could tempt gamblers to start fires themselves to win their bets.
I'm very happy to get an opinion piece into a national publication like The Hill, but I wish it was under better circumstances for Ohio.
Ohio's data center stampede: ill-preparation, lack of care for people's health and the environment makes us a case study on how NOT to develop data centers. Opinion. @ccbecker271.bsky.social @thehill.com: bit.ly/4vVaQJM @amyactonoh.bsky.social @sherrodbrownoh.bsky.social @sierraclub.org
This should be common sense. Solar, wind, and batteries are by far the most affordable and cleanest forms of energy. But these projects lock in dirty fossil fuels for decades that are more expensive every year. The oil and gas industry gets rich at the expense of our health, wallets, and the planet.
📣 Our new report finds that the Trump admin’s energy + AI “dominance” policies + hostility to renewables will make it even harder for working families to afford their energy bills. Thanks to Trump, the wholesale price of fossil gas could DOUBLE over the next decade, outpacing inflation every year.

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

Elon Musk is in deep shite again. His corporations aren't worth nearly what he has said they are. All this shows why we need a Securities and Exchange Commission that’s on the side of average investors and the public — and not bought off by today’s robber barons.
