The organising team are already excitedly making draft plans for next year’s Lovelace Colloquium (the 19th!) while on their journey home. It’ll be at Bath University, 9-10 April 2026 and we’re looking forward to it.
New technology developed by @ilyena.bsky.social of @uofgcompsci.bsky.social in partnership with Blair Drummond Safari Park which allows zoo animals and their human visitors to share experiences could have positive benefits for both. Read more here: www.gla.ac.uk/news/headlin...
We’d like to thank all our sponsors this year, starting with our Gold sponsor Ocado Technology, and their excellent speaker Bala Tirumalasetti and panel member Mariana Fonseca. Ocado have sponsored the Lovelace attendees for four years now and we’re so pleased they support diversity in computing.
What an amazing day we had at the @bcswomenlovelace.bsky.social Colloquium yesterday! Massive congratulations to Rose Gowen from @durhamuniversity.bsky.social who came first in the poster competition 💜🙌🏽🥳
It was so good to catch up with @safiabarikzai.bsky.social at the @bcswomenlovelace.bsky.social social evening last night 🤩
In the afternoon we had a great talk from Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas about using technology to enable animals to communicate remotely (her dog can video call her, and parrots can call other parrots).
Carole Rennie Logan was our third and final speaker of the morning session. She described her progress from graduate to community organiser and conference speaker.
Our next speaker was Bala Tirumalasetti from our Gold Sponsor Ocado Technology. Bala spoke about improving processes at Ocado, and having the right structures and frameworks to do that.
"All those people who look like they've got it sorted? They don't." We are all still inventing ourselves. Great start to the keynote from Sharon Moore.
It's Lovelace day! See everyone here in Glasgow University Union later 😀
And this evening we had a social for those staying the night before, with human bingo and a quiz.
Today we’ve been doing all the preparations for tomorrow: lots of bag packing and moving of boxes into our beautiful venue ready for the morning.
