I didn't want a "smart car". I don't want a vacuum cleaner that spies on me. I won't buy a fridge that can be hacked. It is time we started taking the fight to the tech lords and say we won't buy surveillance products.

One last thing: the average rank & file public health/public services drone WANTS to help you. They are often hamstrung by policies enforced by higher-ups that will not help them help you + being severely understaffed & underfunded. They cannot solve your problems - but they do want to help you.

We got like 8 whole kids at the house for Halloween (double the number for previous years!) which is wild bc 1. lack of sidewalks, 2. high vehicle traffic, 3. local schools/churches doing trunk-or-treat events instead. They were all very nice too ❤️

ao3 has protection against basic data scraping which is used to train AI, taking works offsite exposes them to that risk also, a lot of these fics may have been only accessible for registered users on ao3 and sharing it is going against the author's express wish that the work only be read on ao3

But don’t reupload work that isn’t yours publicly. Even with the best intentions, it’s not yours to do whatever with. #ao3

One thing I've learned from Reiley is the importance of patience with cats. Last night was the first time she's wanted lap tummy cuddles like this since her Summer From Hell (two abdominal surgeries, one of which was an emergency infection and Major Surgery) over a year ago.

Some small nice news: in winter of 2023 we put out a cold-weather shelter & food for a stray with kittens living under our porch. As of this week we learned that not only have they been TNR'd, but that the mother (tabby) and her bestie (tuxedo) have been taken in by somebody in our neighborhood 🥺❤️

Dragon Age and Mass Effect have been two of the most formative series in my life. I made friends in those fandoms I still know to this day! Good and bad, serious and silly, all their stories touched me deeply. Bioware and all its devs and their stories deserved so much more for all that they gave.

Dragon Age is by far the world that's inspired me the most over the years and I'll cherish that forever
I get nausea-inducing migraines and I have found that the defcon system is very useful for quickly communicating the severity of the situation as it unfolds
I have never, ever, EVER, met anyone who cut off their parents who didn't try constantly for decades to get them to stop being the absolute worst pieces of shit imaginable.
