AI Imagery Labeler

@aimod.social

Labeler for flagging suspected AI imagery. To verify the labels on your account or read our handbook: https://query.aimod.social Appeals: please send a report. We do not regularly check this account for tags. Art theft: report to @arttheft.bsky.social

At the end of the day what people keep asking for is the ability to know when something is or is not AI so they can make their own informed choices about how they interact with it. Hopefully tools like SynthID become widespread so it doesn't fall on the user to make their own determinations.

AI-generated label becomes mandatory in the EU

Companies creating or using AI-generated content have to label it clearly for users to know, as part of an EU guideline implemented on Sunday. #EuropeNews

This is why you have to be careful with AI detectors. Some of them are a lot more accurate than others, and none of them are perfect! Our icon was made by two of our artist volunteers. Here is the original concept and some of the iterations they went through.

A bit more on this. We now believe that: - It depends on which PDS the viewing account is located. - It's transient, as in, it eventually syncs up with time. Additionally: It ALSO happens when we remove a label. It keeps showing for hours or days before eventually disappearing for everyone.

We are seeing a new problem with the labeler. We have no idea if it affects other labelers, but we're wondering if it has anything to do with the temporary suspension that happened on the account. Basically, labels stop showing for SOME people. Example for this post here: bsky.app/profile/did:...

This is a test post for the labeler. It should show the label "AI-informative" on it. It has been generated using Google's Gemini, using the prompt "Generate an image which is a simple horizontal gradient from blue to red."

AI-generated image of a horizontal blue to red gradient. The star-shaped Gemini logo is visible on the bottom right.

We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties, please bear with us until those can be resolved. At the moment we are unable to accept reports or add new labels. We will do our best to fix this issue as soon as possible.

We've been getting some confusion regarding some recent changes happening with the labeler, specifically people being added to lists out of the blue, so here's an update that we hope should clarify things. As always, this labeler is for all of you, so let us know if you run into any issues. 😊

We are currently changing the way our mute lists function so users have more control over what content they choose to see. Instead of having one all-inclusive list, we are in the process of breaking it down into discrete categories corresponding with our labels. This means someone with an AI profile picture won't be lumped into the same mute list as someone who is posting AI images every day.

As we continue the migration process, some accounts that are currently labeled by our labeler might receive a notification as if they had just been added to a new list.

If you receive such a notification and believe it is in error, please submit an appeal (or otherwise let us know) so we can resolve the issue.

After recieving frequent requests we have created a new label category: AI-Informative. With this label you can continue to use the AI Image labeler without missing reports ABOUT AI usage that may be relevent to you. If you wish to continue seeing no AI at all make sure to update your settings.

Al Informative - The post includes Al Imagery but is itself not the primary source and is specifically used in the context of education, examination, or critical evaluation. This includes spreading awareness of Al usage by third parties. For example Al detection guides, screenshots of user posts, game footage, advertising or product photos that contain Al.

for those who are curious, I did an audit of the total number of accounts for each label on @aimod.social. All of these have been labeled by a human. Our team is amazing. 💙 AI Modified : 1 AI Assisted : 17 Occasional AI Imagery : 1,542 Frequent AI Imagery : 5,876 AI Avatar or Banner : 10,043

Hi subscribers! 🔎 Now that we’ve caught up on the queue and can focus on other aspects of our service, we want to provide some transparency into how our appeal process works. 1/5

Thank you so much to everyone who applied to volunteer with us! We’ve filled the current openings, but we truly appreciate your enthusiasm and may still reach out for future team expansions. Please make sure we can DM you from this account so we can reach you. Thank you again for your support! 💙

Another thing to look out for, besides AI prompters claiming to be human artists, are users who claim things like, "I shouldn't be labeled for AI because I trained my own model." That statement isn't accurate for a couple of reasons. 🧵 1/4

Hi AI Imagery Labeler subscribers! Our report queue continues to grow while our moderation tools, along with Bluesky, are experiencing slowness. Your reports will take longer than usual to be reviewed, but we're doing our best and will gradually catch up! Thank you again for your understanding! 🔎

Hi AI Imagery Labeler subscribers! With the recent influx of users and new subscribers, our report queue has grown significantly. Your reports will take longer than usual to be reviewed, but we're doing our best and will gradually catch up! Thank you for your understanding! 🔎

Hi subscribers! We've updated our settings! You can now choose to "show badge" instead of "warn" on all our labels. (Bluesky's options allow a label to offer only one of these at a time.) While "warn" hides post contents (handy for NSFW content), it may be less useful for AI images. 1/2

We want to make sure our labeler is something you can truly rely on, and we know that trust is something we need to earn. If we ever miss the mark, your feedback is essential. Here's how you can appeal if you think we've made a mistake. Don't hesitate to reach out—we're here to make things right!

Below, the text reads:

AIMOD.SOCIAL LABELS CAN BE APPEALED THROUGH THE OFFICIAL APPEAL SYSTEM BY THE OWNER OF LABELLED ACCOUNT OR IMAGE.

TO APPEAL ON BEHALF OF OTHERS, YOU CAN APPEAL THE LABEL THROUGH THE REPORT SYSTEM BY CREATING A NEW REPORT AND STATING YOUR REASON FOR APPEALING - OUR MODS READ THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION SENT THIS WAY. PLEASE BE CLEAR AND CONCISE.

TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS OF REMOVING A LABEL, YOU CAN PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORIGINAL SOURCE OF IMAGE(S), THE ARTIST / OWNER, PROCESS IMAGES, AND OTHER USEFUL DATA THAT CAN AID THE LABELING PROCESS.Image 2.

USER - OCCASIONAL / FREQUENT AI IMAGERY

AFTER REMOVAL OF ALL AI CONTENT FROM THE ACCOUNT. NOTE: THE LABEL WILL BE REAPPLIED ON ACCOUNTS IF THEY POST AI IMAGES AGAIN

AI IMAGERY
IF THE LABEL WAS WRONGFULLY PLACED ON NON-AI CONTENT - APPEALING WILL RESTART THE PROCESS AND MODERATORS WILL ESCALATE THE CASEImage 3.
Heading: THIS IMAGE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE AI BUT HAS A LABEL ON IT!
FIRST, PLEASE CHECK THE NAME OF THE APPLIED LABEL. USER LABELS ARE WARNING-TYPE LABELS INFORMING YOU OF THE CONTENT OF THE PROFILE, NOT A SINGULAR POST. THIS MEANS THEY WILL BE VISIBLE ON EVERY POST ON THAT PROFILE. IMAGERY LABELS ARE USED FOR A SPECIFIC POST AND ITS CONTENT.

SECOND, AIGEN TECH PROGRESSES QUICKLY. THE USUAL ARTIFACTS ARE MOSTLY POLISHED OUT, MAKING GENERATED IMAGES HARDER TO SPOT. OUR MODERATORS SPEND EXTRA TIME LEARNING HOW TO RECOGNIZE AI IMAGERY AND LABEL IT ACCORDINGLY.

THIRD, THE IMAGE MAY HAVE CHANGED. IN CASES OF AVATARS AND BANNERS, THEY OFTEN GET CHANGED AND APPEALED. IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE IT BEFORE THE APPEAL IS PROCESSED, IT MAY APPEAR INCORRECTLY LABELED.

IF YOU BELIEVE WE'RE MISTAKEN AND CAN POINT OUT WHY, PLEASE FILE AN APPEAL. WE CARE ABOUT GETTING IT RIGHT AND WE WILL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!Image 4.
Heading: EXTRA NOTICE

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT AIMOD DOESN'T LABEL IMAGES BASED OFF TOPIC, INTENT, OR ANY OTHER SURROUNDING INFORMATION REGARDING WHO POSTED IT. WE'RE SIMPLY LOOKING AT IMAGES AND DECIPHERING MACHINE MARKS TO STATE WHETHER IT IS AI GENERATED.

THIS MEANS THAT, PER OUR POLICY, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AI IMAGE DEPICTS OR WHAT CASE IT SUPPORTS - IT WILL BE TREATED AS AI IMAGERY.

ALSO, REMEMBER THAT POSTS WHICH VIOLATE BLUESKY’S POLICIES, SUCH AS ILLEGAL CONTENT, IMPERSONATION, OR OTHER VIOLATIONS SHOULD BE REPORTED TO BLUESKY, NOT US. WE'RE NOT AFFILIATED AND WE DO NOT HAVE TOOLS OR TRAINING FOR THOSE ISSUES.

THANK YOU
