Honestly, this is madness and a waste of so much talent. Imagine if companies put this much time and effort into unsuccessful tenders. If universities want to think like companies, they need to start acting like them and be far more strategic with their employees time.

Conservatively say that the average applicant spends six months of their allotted research time working on their application. Collectively, more than 2000 years of research time has gone into unsuccessful applications in this round alone.

Tomorrow I'll be attending a conference all about dolmens in Korea here in Gochang, and presenting a paper on restoring, managing and presenting such sites in the UK.

This is amazing. It only goes back to 2000 BC(!), but there were four solar eclipses visible from Stonehenge in the early Bronze Age - in 1981 BC, 1805 BC, 1796 BC and 1706 BC. I'm sure someone has calculated further back!

A cross party group of MPs led by Olly Glover have urged the Secretary of State to intervene over £162m proposed cuts to the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), warning the cuts could seriously damage the UK's global leadership in science, innovation and space research.
