I try to be the bigger man but sometimes I just can't help allowing myself some schadenfreude. Me: "user needs X!" PM: "no way they need X" go talk to the user together, the FIRST thing they say is "we really really need X, please give us X" STOP DOUBTING ME, I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING UNLIKE YOU

Happens to be one of my favorite essays I've written! And since I've written it, I've found more and more examples of works working against the underlying privileging of "center" over "periphery.

My favorite essays are the ones that continue to generate discussion long after they've been published. This piece, by @tallesteden.bsky.social, was published in May of last year and is currently #1 on the site. www.typebarmagazine.com/weirding-the...

God I am just LIVING for the M. John Harrison Renaissance, truly. I remember rambling about Light and Viriconium to anyone who would listen and just being incoherently enthused when I first read Nova Swing. And now everyone is singing his praises alongside me, it feels so good.

One of the biggest and most common deficiencies I've seen in my career is people's absolute incapability to properly estimate problems with users. A user reports an issue and they spiral into apologies or talking about how bad the problem is. No one cares. What is the impact, what is the solution.

If you can read this without crying, I don't know what to tell you. Good crying to be clear, that so many people are fighting the good and hard fights to keep our paradise among the stars vibrant and alive.

The dam removals that get the most press tend to be superlative western ones, like the Klamath and Elwha—big rivers, big fish. For @biographic.bsky.social, I wrote about some equally vital, under-the-radar projects now restoring eastern streams, one old mill dam at a time. #AlewivesAreTheNewSalmon
