This really is worth a watch. A mother of mixed-race children in Piddington breaks down when thinking about the bigotry that's been revealed in her village. It's so awful to see how quickly the mask of politeness can fall off to reveal the evil face of racism beneath.

An important thing that people don't often hear about the Stanford Prison Experiment is that only about a third of the guard participants became abusive, and that was after being told that they should act more like guards. (Assuming I'm remembering the You're Wrong About podcast correctly.)

Also btw not working out every detail in advance has the virtue of giving you flexibility as you write. You won't ever be in a position to mourn the months of careful worldbuilding work you did before you started, that now you have to toss or change significantly.
