Just in case younger trans women are pre-dooming about it: yes if you want to be a mother you can be a mother , to think that this is some lost frontier after you transition is more about anticipatory grieving than reality

Trans woman, writer, mom in St. Paul, Minnesota. Author of OKPsyche (novel) and From the Yew (poetry chapbook).
This is rough but I think it talks about a lot of what is missing from the Cunningham/WNBA discourse. Namely, that trans people are not hypothetical thought experiments. They are real people who are being genocided by our government & any coverage that doesn't center that reality misses the mark.
the answer is always to disavow it

To all the late transitioners out there: Thank you for helping to normalize late-in-life transition. Your openness took away so much of my fear, allowing me to finally see my own transition as a valid and hopeful possibility.

Many of the same culprits of the NWSL's transphobia flare-up in November are gleefully stoking the WNBA's current crisis. There's a lot to learn from Sarah Gorden & Angelina Anderson's responses then, and Brianna Turner & Cheryl Reeve's responses now. Both leagues need to follow suit.
The Anti-Trans Grifters Are Coming For The NWSL | Defector
In July, the Guardian reported that the NWSL had quietly allowed its policy on the participation of transgender players, established in 2021, to expire. The scrapped policy used the testosterone level...

The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.

I remember when J.D. Vance said some weird anti-Irish things and yeah this tracks. They really want to relitigate who was considered 'white' (when my great grandparents came off the boat from Italy and Poland, they certainly were not considered that)

This is from the editor of the "Economist," and with all due respect, I do not think this is a surprising conflict at all. It's just typical fascist reactionary modernism, going back to Marinetti and the Italian Futurists.
cut my novel draft down to a novella in order to prioritize one throughline. Guts everywhere. Turns out that throughline is, like, beat for beat similar to my last novel. It's just embarrassing I didn't see this before; all the other stuff kind of deflected from that. So now i'm completely fucked
