It’s been over a year and a half since I deleted all my selfies on here. Seeing everyone else here today has inspired me to try posting one again. Thanks for giving me the courage.

If you have transitioned later in life, please know how deeply you are needed here. Your story is the exact proof someone else needs to finally take their first step.

Especially now, it’s not trivial to post about trans joy. It’s necessary. Every trans person who shares their joy sends a message of hope to others who may be struggling. And everyone who uplifts those posts helps spread that light, hope and visibility even further.
To every out trans person: You’ve made the world a place where I can finally recognize myself. Thank you for the visibility that turned a lonely path into a shared journey.
Every trans person who comes out makes the world better. Full stop.
Remember: You haven’t missed your chance. There is no deadline on becoming who you want to be. The door hasn’t closed. In fact, some of your best ones haven’t opened yet.
Small acts of kindness and resistance matter. Every conversation, every moment of care and every refusal to give in adds up. You don’t have to do everything. Just do something.
Seriously, never forget: just by being out as trans and living your life, you've given someone the hope they needed to believe in their own future.
To my trans sisters and brothers: You are magic. You are art. I hope the world shows up for you in the best possible way today and always.
Every trans person who transitions later in life is a gift to the community. Your example tells those still waiting: it’s not too late and you are not alone.
The truth is, you’ll never really know how far your kindness travels. Something you said in passing might still be echoing in someone’s mind. A small act that felt routine to you might have meant everything to them. Don’t underestimate the ways you may have made a difference in someone’s life.
There’s no deadline for becoming who you’re meant to be. Growth takes the time it needs. You’re allowed to bloom late. You’re allowed to begin again.
To all the other trans folks out there: I hope the universe sends a little extra love, luck, and magic your way today.
To all the late transitioners, thank you for your visibility. You didn't just change your own life. You provided a roadmap for everyone wondering if they, too, could still transition. We are so grateful for you.
To my fellow trans folks: You are magic! And I hope today reflects that magic back to you.

Living openly as a trans person builds a bridge for others who are still trying to cross over into their own truth.

This literally happened again just a few weeks ago. You can always be someone's "I want to be her."
Always remember: Someone has seen you live your life as an out trans person and realized, for the very first time, that a future is actually possible.
When I spoke at a small panel about trans people and our experiences I not only had some youth who saw a possible future for themselves come forward and talk to me afterwards, but also several adults.

The hardest thing about leaving academia wasn't abandoning the research I'd invested almost 20 years of myself into—it was walking away from the daily privilege of getting to be this for the students who needed it.

I'm old, so I've been around long enough for a few of them to tell me so, and it damn near brings me to tears every single time.
Always remember: Someone has seen you live your life as an out trans person and realized, for the very first time, that a future is actually possible.
Yes I will always be proud of the fact that my transition enabled at least 2 people that I know of to have the confidence to move forward in their lives.
As a publicly-out trans high school teacher, I think about this ALL THE TIME.

This is why I never ever shut the fuck up I'd only been out like six weeks the first time someone hesitantly approached me to say they'd been having some feelings about their gender I'll irritate a million cis people talking about it too much if it means a single trans person sees what's possible

To the late transitioners who became what they never had growing up: You may have spent years without the representation you needed, yet you still became that representation for others. Thank you for turning the absence of a mirror into a wide-open window of possibility for everyone.
