Definitely a great idea to constantly change fictional dates so every sf story remains safely in the future. New editions of 1984 should be set in 2062 but with nothing else changed

in re Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" (which, in the original Martian Chronicles, occurs on today's date), I didn't realize the very first published version of the story, in Collier's magazine, was set in April 1985. (the current edition of Martian Chronicles now sets it in 2057).

Oh no, didnt think you were. It's just more that people outside the industry think about the departments they know of but obviously ignore departments whose roles are unknown to them. The sheer amount of collaboration that goes into making films is shocking.

Joni Mitchell thread #6 starts with another album I haven't listened to much. It's an improvement over the last few. Come in from the Cold is quite lovely, as is The Only Joy in Town. Overall the lyrics are starting to feel more sophisticated again, although wtf is up with The Windfall? Apparently..

One thing that makes Dr. Who great (when it is) is the rule that the Doctor never* uses violence. Every final confrontation with a villain is truly exciting because you don't know how the Doctor is going to pull it off. In a superhero movie, no matter which superhero, you know it's gonna be punching

My problem w/recent superhero movies — Superman is a perfect example — is that even when there are a lot of fun *moments* the movie seems much more interested in lore (as opposed to genuine worldbuilding) that I could give two shits about, and then the last 30 minutes is just a cgi punchfest

I have belatedly been getting into The Great British Bake Off and now I can’t hear Bruce Springsteen singing Prove It All Night without thinking, that’s way too long to prove it, man
