Myopia is a common eye condition that affects a lot of kids. Things up close look clear to them, but their distance vision is blurry. If you’re concerned your child might have Myopia, talk to their eye doctor and see if they are up to date on their recommended screenings.

The Flaum Eye Institute will be closed September 7th in recognition of Labor Day. We will reopen for normal operations Tuesday September 8th.

September is recognized as Healthy Aging Month. As we age, the risk of eye disease increases. It is important to wear sunglasses outside, eat a relatively healthy diet, and stay up to date on your eye exams.

Our final pediatric ophthalmologist is our chief of pediatrics, Dr. Alex Levin. Dr. Levin provides care to kids with pediatric anterior segment eye conditions and genetic eye conditions. He is also actively involved in researching gene therapy, rare diseases and more.

The next pediatric provider you should meet is Dr. Ben Hammond. He diagnoses and treats childhood glaucoma and cataracts, strabismus, among other conditions. Dr. Hammond also leads our autism vision clinic, a clinic specially designed to treat kids who live with autism.

The next member of our pediatric team is Dr. Vikas Khetan. Dr. Khetan is a pediatric retina surgeon and specializes in intraocular tumors. He also leads our ocular oncology service and treats a range of tumors from harmless, to life-threatening.

Our next pediatric provider for you to meet is Dr. Andrea Avila. Dr. Avila is fluent in Spanish and has completed two residencies, one in pediatrics and one in ophthalmology. She treats multiple conditions including pediatric tear duct problems, strabismus, amblyopia, and more.

This Thursday, in collaboration with CooperVision we will be performing another round of vision screenings at the Strong Museum of play. Screenings will take place from 12-2pm and are free with paid admission to the museum.

The next member of our pediatric team we'd like you to meet is Dr. Matthew Haynie. A dad of multiple children, Dr. Haynie takes pride in caring for children and helping a child's vision any way he can. He treats strabismus, pediatric cataracts and glaucoma, clogged tear ducts, and more.

With August being Children's Eye Health Month, we wanted to introduce the members of our pediatric team. First is Dr. Matthew Gearinger who treats blocked tear ducts, pediatric glaucoma, and more. He is also involved in the community through our MobilEyes program.
