Tonight at the Clubhouse we started our Doomed campaign. In the first scenario we dropped in by grav-chute to kill a Rot-Herald, who proved somewhere difficult to exterminate, although we managed eventually.

Spaceships! Decided I needed to scratch a Battlefleet Gothic itch so I've been working on some new fleets. I may also be starting a little group at the local club of some like minded admirals 🤞

This weekend's reading is sorted thanks @wssmagazine.bsky.social For the Boer War fans I have an article (a scenario) about it in this edition which I had a LOT of fun writing. There's also a review of some of my Jewish Revolts minis - but you'll have to buy the mag to read it (it's good!)

All of my miniatures are designed by hand. Today for example I've started doodling the design for the next addition to my Rat-Kin range, the Tide Wraith. Needless to say I am no artist, but at this stage of the concept design you don't need to be as it is more about getting ideas on paper.

I've had a horrendous evening trying to bake a gluten free cake and failing miserably so having to redo it, so I've been chilling out working on my troupe of horrors (and beauties, looking at you Turkeyman). These are now nearly done, barring finishing off the basing which will be tomorrow's job.

I've seen a lot of talk lately about backdrops, and whilst my go to is usually the excellent backdrop books by Jon of Handiwork Games, there's nothing to stop you going really basic and just using stuff from around the house or, indeed, the garden. Is it magazine quality, no, but it looks fun.

I very nearly forgot to get off the train because I was so engrossed in this book. It's a brilliant read, I can highly recommend it if you haven't already - especially if, like me, your wargaming roots lie in the Warhammer of the 90s.

Tonight we played another game of The Doomed at the Clubhouse (using some fantastic Newcastle themed Necromunda terrain). Despite losing the scenario my warband still managed to kill the horror (a rat ogre) at least giving me a moral victory, albeit not an actual victory! As always it was great fun.

The other half has just got these stickers* in the event of a house fire (following a recent fire at her parents farm that left half of it in ashes). But is it just me or does it look like the cat has set the fire on purpose? *We have 2 cats but that wasn't an option on the stickers

Sometimes you get days like today when everyone is putting in an order and I have to wonder what prompted a bunch of people to decide to buy rats all at the same time? To everyone who has put in an order, I always appreciate the excuse to go for a walk to the post office in the sun! Love y'all.

This afternoon I played a solo game of The Doomed, using my Rat-Kin (available on my website) as the mutant abominations being hunted by my Thunder Warriors. For the big beastie that had to be terminated I used my Skaven Rat Ogre (who goes very nicely with the Rat-Kin).

Nerd alert. My office is still out of action due to renovations so I'm painting at the dining table again. My new head lamp is proving very useful in the absence of my normal desk lamp.

The past few days have been very stressful (lots of talk about redundancies and team mates being taken into early morning meetings with HR) so this afternoon I've been relaxing by taking photos of my newly painted Thunder Warriors using the @handiworkgames.bsky.social Sci Fi backdrops.

After a busy day of doing DIY it's time to relax in the shade by adding some streaking grime to my Thunder Warriors.

It's still too warm, but I've managed to do some painting tonight, albeit at my makeshift hobby desk. Currently I'm working on a Thunder Warrior patrol for The Doomed, mostly because I've been looking for an excuse to paint some since watching @roguehobbies.bsky.social video on painting one.

Currently enjoying the cool air as thunder and torrential rain sweep away the heat. If it continues like this I might actually feel like getting on with some miniature painting this evening!

Inspired by my first game of The Doomed, I've been busy kitbashing some new recruits to my Inquisitor's warband. Like the first lot, I've tried to give them a quasi-medieval meets sci fi apocalypse vibe.

Tonight we played The Doomed for the first time. The first wargame I've played that didn't need a tape measure! Quite a weird experience but it's a very good game.

With perfect timing my next mini project (pun intended) has arrived! My plan is to turn these six Thunder Warriors into a warband for The Doomed so I can play some Unification War era games - my favourite period of Warhammer history.

Being a Mordheim nerd I've been working on a table of terrain for my home collection for a while. But I've been prevaricating about how to paint it, so this weekend I just said screw it, I'll spend both days drybrushing buildings and risers. And voila! Not perfect, but perfect is the enemy of good.

This past weekend I entered the Geordie Daemon painting competition. Not with the intention of winning, but just to be involved. One of my entries was my Rat-Kin Bone Seer. He had some fantastic company as the quality of hobby was truly stunning!

After a busy day at work and then essay writing, all while sweating my ass off, it's nice to sit down in the garden as it starts to get cooler and do some "light" reading. And the cats have come over to join me.
