Once again I am suffering in loneliness over my love for the novel Maurice, and especially literally everything Alec Scudder says or does. I love that character so much. Loves Maurice at first sight, and Maurice is oblivious and thinks he’s annoying. Thank goodness Alec is proactive 🤣

I got a YouTube comment from someone sad I haven’t been posting videos, which followed a weekend of me thinking I need to get back into posting videos. So I guess I’m going to put more effort into that, esp. since I have to record a course on Egypt/Mesopotamia anyway… 👀

Much to my surprise, I had inspiration this morning for my “Irish story” as I call it. My reimagining of the Fionn/Oisin legends. No one will care, but I wanted to post it anyway because I like it. It’s a moment that comes much later in the story. 1.

“Lonn, this is foolish,” Dalva said, taking hold of his brother’s arm, but Lonn shook him off. “He’s in the Otherworld! He’s not going to hear you.” Defiantly, Lonn cupped his hands around his mouth and called, “Oisin!” He marched on, thundering through the carpet of leaves as Dalva followed reluctantly. “Oisin!” “What do you even expect will happen?” Dalva demanded, despite knowing that trying to reason with Lonn was futile. “Do you think he will give up Tir na Nog for us? His father and sister are there. Niamh is there, and he will live forever with her.”

Update! I survived! lol Only 2 kids came, and their parents were lovely. The theme was leaves and squirrels, and three possible books. I let them decide if they wanted the third book or if they wanted to go play and do the art project instead. They chose to play. Here are the art projects!

It’s been 15 years since I last did a story time for kids of the minimum age of 8. Today is my first preschool storytime and I’m sweating bullets. Folks, I have spoken at international conferences, chaired an impromptu panel on digital humanities to fill 2 hours. I’m afraid of preschoolers.

Noooooo I just saw Expedition 33 is getting a movie now? Come on. It takes 30-40 hours to beat the main quest that has a complex, multilayered plot. You can’t put that into a single movie. Moreover part of the impact of the game is in how personal it is.

After 7 years, my hardworking PS4 dual shock controller must be laid to rest. Her buttons have been failing and I had to replace her with this lovely PS5 dual sense, color coded to match the blue/green theme of my PC 😆 🎮 I must be fully armed for The Witcher 3 remaster at the end of this month 👀

At library 2, a little girl came up to ask for scissors. And then she told me I was beautiful. And because I am Stede, I lost all speech function and blushed profusely and stammered out a thank you 🤣🙈
