hmm don't know if people are doing the thing where it's like "let's catch up soon!" but don't really mean it STILL it's been bothering me lately when i reach out to people OOF
hot take but sometimes i think that projecting a personal identity onto a character 1:1 can lead to the erasure or even an offensive reading of the author's intentions. more on this in the rest of the thread but read it before jumping to any conclusions so...

"i wanna make xyz that honors natives-" can non indigenous people stop doing this. it's hollow. it's embarrassing. it does nothing. your pixels on the screen do not do anything for us. playing dolls on the internet does nothing. full stop.
This space is constantly crazy for natives; nobody can ever express our opinions on our cultures and topics without being purposefully rejected, banned, set aside. I'm so mad.
The fact is, you want to safely cosplay us & you know you can functionally get away with it because everyone outside our communities have normalized stealing and exploiting us. None of you want to ever acknowledge that either because it forces you to look inward of your own actions.
If you want to "honor," natives you can start by actually engaging with our media, characters, & stories. There is some AMAZINGLY talented people both in & outside of this community, at the end of the day you guys want our culture, skin, & clothing off our back without what it means to be us.
