Nurul Amin Shah Alam, a nearly blind refugee who spoke little English, was dropped off alone at a coffee shop by U.S. Border Patrol agents–miles from his home, with no way to contact his family, and without his family ever being notified of his whereabouts. Five days later, he was found dead.

RCUSA was able to join as many as 2,000 people as part of a #FaithfulResistance on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC yesterday. Ecumenical and interfaith leaders and communities gathered to speak up and attend congressional visits in support of forcibly displaced people who sought safety in the US.

A group of people are marching on a street, holding a banner that reads, "Faithful Resistance: A Public Witness for Immigrant Justice." Two buses are parked on the side, and trees line the street under an overcast sky.A crowd of people participating in a peaceful march, holding colorful signs that read "LOVE NOT HATE" and "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR" in a park setting. The scene is calm, with trees and streetlamps lining the path.A group of people gathered outdoors, many holding various protest signs. One sign prominently displays an image and the word "Jesus." The setting appears to be a grassy area with a large leafless tree and a large building in the background.

Trump just addressed the UN with a dangerous proposal: asylum seekers would be forced to stay in the first country they enter—no choice, no exceptions. Today and always, we stand with all refugees and asylum seekers and reaffirm their right to safe, dignified lives ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

The bill provides $80 billion for immigration jails, agents and operations related to enforcement and removal – giving the Trump administration a slush fund to kidnap more students and community members and experiment with ways to disrupt communities on an increasingly massive scale. It would hand out $5 trillion in tax cuts to the ultra-rich.

This bill would give millionaires a $68,000 tax cut and households in the top 0.1 percent a $300,000 tax cut, while raising taxes or doing nothing for 33 million working-class households.
