OTD 1529 Thomas More was appointed Lord Chancellor by Henry VIII, who had not learned the lesson of another Henry (II) almost 400 years earlier who had appointed another Thomas (Becket). Both Thomases (and their heads) ended up badly.

For #RomanFortThursday here’s a smaller fortlet on top of Penycrocbren hill, Dylife in Powys, Mid Wales. It lies next to a Roman road over the ridge & north of the linear remains of early lead mines. To the west is a gibbet site on a Bronze Age burial mound. The fortlet dates to the 2nd c.

Established in 1862 in Scarborough's Ramsdale Valley, Valley Gardens is a historic public park featuring lush floral displays, rockwork, and a tranquil duck pond. Bisecting the park is Valley Bridge, an iron structure opened in 1865 using salvaged components from York’s old Lendal Bridge. Rebuilt in 1928, it serves as a prominent vehicular and pedestrian route. Together, they form a scenic coastal landmark.

👀 Church of St Mary, Kelling, Norfolk 15th century octagonal Font which bears many emblems e.g. crossed swords. The inscription round the rim in Latin translates to - 'Pray for the souls of Lord William of Kelling and Beatrice his wife, who had this font made'. #FontsOnFriday

A 15th Century octagonal font with various shields and a wooden lid of 1902.Carved shields on the side of the font - The Trinity (three circles at the points of a triangle with lines linking to a centre circle) & Instruments of the Passion (laid out around a cross). The name Kelling carved on the side of the font.
