I taught Ottessa Moshfegh's story, "Brom," in a fiction workshop at New College of Florida about a month before my NTT contract expired. I wasn't joking when I told my students that I waited until then because it was too late to fire me.

“The writer’s work is merely a kind of optical instrument which he offers to the reader to enable him to discern what, without this book, he would perhaps never have perceived in himself. And the recognition by the reader in his own self of what the book says is the proof of its veracity.” -Proust

“I’d love to simply be a person going around with a camera, a person traveling, writing, and gathering footage—and with it all I would love to capture whatever Melanie said…” A fascinating book, read while traveling myself—albeit on familiar paths—and one I hope to reread soon.

A review of Melanie Index, the new novel by @ericblix.bsky.social forthcoming from @erratumpress.bsky.social. Would that I could type all this into its own thread but I am far too lazy to reword and reword and whatnot. I dug this book v much and, as evident in review, cannot recommend highly enough.
My new book, Melanie Index, is out next month. Let me know if you’d be interested in a review copy.

I have a new short story out. The first I’ve published since (I think) 2019.
