Thanks @valeriamondelli.bsky.social yes it was a great session and allowed us to discuss important #psychiatry treatments like #clozapine, #ECT, #valproate and #antipsychotics, and to hear also the voice of people with #livedexperience of #mentalhealth difficulties.

Fantastic clinical session with final panel discussion at #BAP2025 on “Myth-busting the (should not be) controversial treatments in psychiatry: A review of clinical evidence” chaired by @carminepariante.bsky.social #valproate #antipsychotic #clozapine #ECT #livedexperience @bapsych.bsky.social

Today at #BAP2025 we heard from both lived-experience and pharmacology experts that clozapine,“Britain’s most dangerous drug” is lifesaving for people with treatment-resistance— with current thresholds for discontinuation racially unequal (some people have naturally lower but safe neutrophil levels)

Newspaper articles including the headline “Britain’s most dangerous prescription drug”Shows how some ethnicities have benign neutropaenia, which is not a risk factor itself but can lead to treatment cessation or burden of extra tests Summary that clozapine is underused and life-saving, despite known risks

Dr Max Taquet, winner of the junior clinical award, presents on the use of electronic health records for drug repurposing, biomarker development and relapse prediction - including some really cool findings on symptom instability #BAP2025

Dr Taquet showing data suggesting that high instability in symptoms is a big predictor of hospitalisation.

Great slide highlighting some findings presented yesterday by @carminepariante.bsky.social on sex differences in associations between IL-6 and CRP and how IL-6 relates to treatment response in a sample of individuals with treatment-resistant depression.
