I have never understood and never will understand why interrupting someone while I'm reading to chat (not say something important or informative, just chat) isn't considered rude, but telling the interrupter "I'm reading and don't want to talk right now" is.

My way of dealing with the demoralizing publishing industry has become to ignore everything and go write. Do not think about the outcome. Enjoy the trees and plants, do volunteer work and speak up when you can, spend time with people who love you and write, edit, revise, send it out. REPEAT.
