If you want 1.5C, 1.8C, 2C, overshoot, no-overshoot, etc, then they all require the same thing: rapid short-term emission reductions reaching net zero CO2 emissions as soon as possible. This has been clear from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, which depicts "overshoot" on its cover! 1/

Wow, these sequestration rates (even in medium scenario) are not just unrealistic, they are fantastical. Our work on geological limits to carbon sequestration shows that even achieving 1 Gt/y will be challenging without significant tech breakthrough. Relying on CCS today is not a realistic plan!

The article also includes a first look at the carbon dioxide removal deployed in these scenarios (based on the IAM used in the marker scenario). Some scenarios deploy what I would consider unrealistic levels – particularly those we have slower near-term emissions reductions like "Medium-Low".

Lala, now a Category 1 hurricane, looks pretty healthy on radar imagery as it makes a close approach toward Hawaii's Big Island, where it may make landfall (if so, would be first HI landfall since 1992). Either way, widespread and potentially serious flash flooding is expected.
