With the LHC at room temperature, technicians and engineers will be able to work on the accelerator as it is transformed into the #HiLumiLHC during LS3, a phase of major maintenance and upgrade work.

Ennallistaminen puolestaan on tehokas tapa palauttaa suon kyky pidättää vettä ja kosteutta. Se on turva metsäpaloja vastaan. Ennallistaminen on äärimmäisen tärkeää, koska turvepaloa on todella vaikea sammuttaa. Bonuksena kaikista näistä toimista hyötyvät myös luonto ja sen lajit! 6/6

Vaikka tilanne voi tuntua epätoivoiselta, siihen ei kannata turtua. Koska laajat maastopalot ovat suuri taloudellinen uhka myös Suomen metsänomistajille, kannustimen omien metsien turvaamiseksi pitäisi olla selvä. 5/6

Mitä voimme siis tehdä, jotta metsäpaloriski pienenee? 1. Ojitettuja soita pitää ennallistaa eli palauttaa kohti luonnontilaa. Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto on Metsähallituksen jälkeen Suomen toiseksi suurin soiden ennallistaja. 2. Talousmetsistä on kasvatettava lajistoltaan monimuotoisempia. 4/6

Lisäksi talousmetsät ovat Suomessakin vahvasti yksilajisia, mikä lisää paloherkkyyttä. Monimuotoinen ja eri-ikäisiä puita sisältävä metsä kestää metsäpaloja paremmin. 3/6

Suomen talousmetsistä noin 1/4 on turvepohjaista metsää. Ne ovat siis entisiä soita, jotka on ojitettu, eli kuivattu, jotta niissä voisi kasvattaa talousmetsää. Bordeaux’n lähellä maastopalot riehuvat ojituksen avulla kuivatetuissa, turvepohjaisissa talousmetsissä. 2/6
