The great @brechtdp.bsky.social in Issue 21 of Stanchion Magazine. Enjoy the whole of this beaut. "There aren’t many times in life we truly listen. Some say we only listen once, as a child. Then for the rest of our lives all we do is remember, or try to."

Pub Day! If you want to know how I’m doing, I just tried to refill my coffee by turning on the kitchen sink.

A beautiful, poignant story in letter form by @brechtdp.bsky.social in @stanchion.bsky.social

Horrible delays on the trains today - but it means I managed to finish a good draft of the story I am working on, and I have to say: I'm pretty pleased with this one. As you can see from the title: more hippos coming your way!🦛🙂

My daughter, who recently turned 18, gave a TED talk this morning about diversity in engineering, and I admit I did not keep it dry 🥹

I'll be in volume 1 (on the left) 😊

On 22 Dec at 5pm CET, I will run a small online event on how to use my lit mag rankings for submitting to journals. This event is for those: (i) new to submitting; and/or (ii) not comfortable with spreadsheets. The event will be FREE but there are only 10 spots - sign up below!

OK, this is not a proper ranking, but just a little fun I had with the Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2016-2025. 2 pts for every featured story, 1 pt for every notable. 2025 weight = 1, decreasing to 2016 weight = 0.1 Full list (67 journals) available from my website.

It's been a good year... Thanks so much to all the wonderful magazines that published my writing + everyone who read my work. Links to all stories below!

This morning: Paris doing Paris

OK, I wasn't expecting this 🤯 - I travelled to Rwanda in August - I wrote an essay about it in September - I started submitting in October - Only 3 lit mag responses in, and it's an acceptance from @chicagoqreview.bsky.social ! What a way to end the year 🥳🥂

Science fiction & fantasy writers: I am working on a special lit mag ranking for you... Question: would it be weird if I lumped together Fantasy Magazine / The Deadlands / Psychopomp?

Hi writer friends! Would you please give me your recommendations for online creative writing / poetry workshops for new writers? This would be a gift for my college-aged cousin. Thank you so much!

This is not the kind of elephant hunt you might be expecting. A tragic and tender story

Hey all - I think my story in the Missouri Review can be accessed for free! It's about a guy going on an elephant hunt... 🐘🙂 muse.jhu.edu/pub/48/artic...

This made me think: if any lit mag is interested in adding a badge to their website to signal their ranking or inclusion in the ranking (similar, I guess, to the Duotrope or ChillSubs badges), feel free to DM me!

Really proud to land at #109 overall in these listings, and #87 in poetry! Not that bad out of almost 800 literary magazines! Thank you to @brechtdp.bsky.social for putting these metrics together.

The tyres spin, digging a deep hole, and they have to get out to push and their clothes get dirty. From there to the hotel they only see a few impala. The grass is high and the trees full of leaves. But most of all, the war has taken a terrible toll. @brechtdp.bsky.social @theforge.bsky.social !!
