The Sarnie Terns on Brownsea had a terrible breeding season following disturbance from the GBB Gulls and egg predation by Ravens - hopefully some relocated! @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @wildontheroad.bsky.social @staldhelmsbirder.bsky.social
Sandwich Tern, Little Tern and Black-headed Gull all enjoyed excellent breeding success at Pagham Harbour in 2026, according to the RSPB:
Pretty rough on the lagoon today but good to see substantial avocet flocks, plus good numbers of herring gulls (moments before a squall picked up and I exited the Tern Hide sharpish) #WildBrownsea #StormAusten @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
A huge flock of cormorant sinensis put up by the boat departing JLP jetty this morning.... almost a seabird murmuration! #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
I don't read the Daily Mail (someone showed me this howler from 21st October). I'd just like to point out that this is not a bed bug but a beetle. So, if you like to spot a bed bug, I suggest other, more reliable, sources of information such as: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_bug

Eclipse male teal stripping seeds or inverts from glasswort through its bill then collecting them from the water. Interesting to watch! #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
Canada Goose Utd have the ball but Coot City are defending well, lots of fowls in the game but still 0-0 as it stands! The Mute Swan crowd are not impressed! ⚽️ 😁

On #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, today’s Autumn Arrival Spotlight is the Grey Plover! These impressive fliers migrate from the Arctic, capable of non-stop flights of 6,500 km to reach UK coastlines. Some stay for winter while others continue their journey to western Africa.
Fascinating - hard to believe there is a cooler name than the Batman Hoverfly... for the same insect!!

Rare white aurora borealis captured in Norway. Usually, it is green, red, or blue, but the light from different gases in the atmosphere can mix, and then the aurora takes on an almost white color.
