Not generally a fan of gatekeeping but I'm increasingly fond of the idea of an entrance exam for anyone who wants to write about universities, requiring them to demonstrate they are fully aware of the differences between a university and a debating society.

James Bond: you think I haven’t faced death before? Supervillain: oh, I don’t expect you to die, Mr. Bond. I expect you to suffer. *opens travel funding reimbursement software I think you will find your motorboat rental and casino reservations especially complex James Bond: no. no. pls kill me

No one tells you that the weirdest bit of moving to Scotland is mid August. What do you mean the rest of the world is on holiday? Why are there “summer specials”? It’s back to school autumn nip in the air here.

Ah, so REF will allow institutions to amend their HESA returns, without the usual charge. On the one hand, great. On the other hand lots of national data sets could end up needing republishing.

I'm disappointed. Haven't seen any pictures of happy A level students leaping in the air after receiving their results. Too much in this heat? But also, students opening envelopes? Don't they all get them on line rather than turn up at the school to collect them?

As someone who grew up in rural Lincolnshire, I'm disappointed to find that a tractor supply email is just spam and not some very niche but random marketing for John Deere. 🙁

Sorry to rub it in, but just been out with a friend walking her dogs on a 5 mile long empty, sandy beach and then sat and had a coffee in the (not overly hot) sun. Even had a paddle. Visit Fife, honestly, it's just perfect.

Always wanted to check the veracity of this, and here it is, from the Dundee Courier, Tuesday 15 September 1885 Arbroath 36, Bon Accord 0: a famous result

Arbroath v. Bon-Accord (Aberdeen)— Extraordinary FARCE. —This match —the first cup tie — was played at Arbroath on Saturday, when, despite the rain, there was good turn-out of spectators. The match was one of the drollest ever seen here or any where else, and baffles description. It was truly the " Massacre of the Innocents," for a more help- less set of innocents never before met the crack club of Forfarshire. Though unable to describe the match, we can give the result, which we hope no one will doubt. Two forty-fives were played. The first result was —Arbroath, 15 ; Bon-Accord, 0 ; second —Arbroath, 21 Bon-Accord, 0. Grand total—Arbroath, 36; Bon Accord, 0. Milne, the active goalkeeper of the Arbroath, neither touched the ball with hand or foot during the match, but remained under the friendly shelter of umbrella the whole time.

I sing with a choir and we get downloads of my part. Does anyone have any recommendations of an app that lets me put together a play list of the songs I 'm trying to learn, that I can then play via Android Auto? Android music player on my phone is just not up to the job.

I'm planning a trip south. You will be able to work out when from the apparent drop in temp that is predicted. I can't promise to bring rain as well but I'll see what I can do.
