What a terribly sad case. Just noting that when a research misconduct case starts, it doesn't end when someone leaves. An investigation isn't just about the case, it's also about the context and what lessons can be learnt. Also, someone resigning is not an admission of misconduct.

I've just had to use the new ScotRail app. Old app wasn't bad but how did this one get past testing? It can't seem to cope with return, Edinburgh (Waverley) has disappeared as an option (you just get Edinburgh) and where has my rail card discount gone. And that's before I even buy a ticket!

I need to visit various family members so thought I'd see what the train journey would be like. Depending on which train app I use, I get wildly different costs (in one case double!) and even stranger routes. It shouldn't be this hard and I say that as a very seasoned train user.

The Edinburgh Yorkshire Society formed in 1893 by "independent and prosperous Yorkshiremen" in the city 🏵️ It reformed in Leith in 1929, 150 members singing "On Ilkla' Moor" to celebrate. In 1990 they sponsored the white rose mosaic laid on Rose Street, and in 1991 donated 2 benches to the street

Here’s a mystery for you. In Princes Street Gardens there is a bench dedicated to the Edinburgh Yorkshire Society. And I can find no trace of it anywhere online.

Pittenwhem Art Festival is amazing. An entire village taken over by artists. Plus there's a chocolate shop, a wool shop and the most amazing sea views. And a tidal pool. What's not to love.

The ScotRail app update is going well. First issue is that rather than update the current app, you have to download a new one. The new app has a different name, so if you search for ScotRail you won't find it. You have to follow the link from the ScotRail webpage. Luckily, I'm not travelling today.

So, in the debate on academic Vs technical education, how are we defining technical? Because there are lots of academic courses that involve technical skills and technical roles that require studying and exams. Perhaps if we started talking about a spectrum, we might get further. It's not either/or.

If this were on my commute I'd consider installing icecream chimes. Or a Trotify!

I'm having a moment. There used to be an organisation that published various books on higher education, the law of HE being one I've had on my shelf for years. But I cannot remember the name (something to do with Oxford?). Anyone remember? (tried Googling but dear lord Google is useless these days)

Reading articles on the amounts HE has spent in APCs over the last 5-10 years, and slowly watching my blood pressure rise. Millions upon millions, on something WE CAN ABSOLUTELY DO OURSELVES FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST - what universities couldn't do with that kind of money now... 😠 And breathe...
