I love logging into read a new article that cites my work only to have the authors make a false statement about what was said in a section of it. Sheesh.

I love how CHI reviewing guidelines specifically say "please avoid using 'you' statements" and yet I have just received the rudest fucking review from someone that uses exclusively you statements. While also asking for IRR tests and other statistics on qualitative research.
Really want to know what absolute monster decided to have chi reviews due the day after cscw ended. In other words, this final review is going to be late.
New for #cscw2025, my work with @bsemaan.bsky.social on how artists experience, and are resilient in the face of, enshittification. Curious? Read about the research on the @acm-cscw.bsky.social Medium. EXCEPTIONALLY curious? Preprint is here: ellensimpson.github.io/assets/pdf/C...

Was the internet ever good for artists—or was the experience just colored nostalgia by a less terrible internet? New research by Ellen Simpson and Bryan Semaan for #CSCW2025 explores how enshittification has reshaped art and community for artists.
I cannot wait to read all of the political communications papers about this man and this campaign for years to come. Truly, an incredible effort.
New York City, I can see a future with you. And it’s one we can afford. Our new ad just aired during The Golden Bachelor.
We looked back on the "backlash" against American Eagle ads featuring Sydney Sweeney and her "great jeans." Right-wing media declared that liberals were outraged and thought the ads were racist -- even the White House joined in. If you thought that story reeked, you'll want to see what we found.
American Eagle was dragged into an online outrage cycle after conservative media figures claimed that liberals were offended by the clothing company's ads featuring Sydney Sweeney and a denim-themed pun about her "great jeans." We checked the data. That wasn't true. openmeasures.io/american-eag...
This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater. The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable. interestingengineering.com/science/chin...
Sure does feel good to know you got brought in last year for a job interview to make a white man without an actual degree in the damn field look good. Love that.
Somehow threaded the seasonal vaccine needle @-@
Writing to CHI deadlines is just a lot but hey I've made an entire monthly budget spreadsheet!
hey just an FYI: we're not yet at the part where AI companies and the state are so closely intertwined that disclosing energy usage would constitute a threat to national security or some other such bullshit, making transparency into the environmental impact of data centers all but impossible
One study concluded 70% of increased electric cost across US due to AI data centers. apnews.com/article/elec...
lol have a PhD in Idaho and your ads are wild.
Dumpling shop is just straight up millennial bisexual crisis the playlist. Or, Mr Brightside is playing come get your gays.
And side note that figuring out international conference travel before your official first day on payroll makes everything so complicated. But plz look forward to me talking about enshittification in Norway this autumn!
I love how I sign up as a PC for CSCW and I get no less than 4 other hey girl hey emails about reviewing for journals in the course of a week. I always feel guilty about saying no, but I am moving across the country in 6 days, I cannot right now. I just cannot.
Encountering a near existential dissonance seeing articles like this next to articles about professors, teacher unions, and university admins gleefully adopting and promoting these systems.

Pokemon cards that had no business going this hard.
So I've been selling some stuff on marketplace and wow. Them: Can I do $20 for this $30 item. Me: No, $30 is firm. Them: I'll do $25, I'm also driving from Denver. Like, did you want me to cover the cost of gas? Sheesh.
Does anyone have advice about how to balance all of the emails and requests that come in prior to when you officially start a new faculty position while still working a full time postdoc gig?
Paper writing today and I got to make a bunch of unhinged tables. Love this for me.
There is something really relaxing about doing really boring and low key data work. Today I gotta go collect some stuff, write a lil parser to count it, then make a view in our database to show it off. I also have to transcribe an interview. It’s lovely and low key today.
ChatGPT has re-invented study groups.
“The mode is apparently the chatbot’s way of becoming a better educational tool. Rather than providing answers to prompts, some say it asks more questions and requires the human to answer…” In the future, the chatbot prompts *you* 🥴
