me: i'm so exhausted. i can't believe it's only Tuesday. i looked at a computer 12 hours straight today and now i am going to sleep like the dead... my cat: HEY I FOUND MY TOY WITH THE JINGLE BELL IN IT AND AM SUDDENLY INTERESTED IN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS

if you want some spicy *authentic* ODYSSEY discourse, the Dumbarton Oaks Medieval Library has a translation of the incredibly bitter East Roman freelancer John Tzetzes's ALLEGORIES OF THE ODYSSEY, which is the cutting edge of 12th-century Homeric criticism. folks, it's *bonkers*.

The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.

When the House Hippo first appeared on Canadian televisions, it seemed that everyone wanted one to appear in their homes. This commercial became a part of the Canadian cultural landscape and even today, the House Hippo is beloved by Canadians. 🧵 1/10

Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”

This. I don't think anyone is really anti-AI. They're anti-the-companies-pushing-AI. LLMs have some really incredible use cases. They can be assistive technologies, help with mental load, and allow you to focus more on the present than an endless stream of tasks or your phone.

Crappy morning. I find LLMs really beneficial in certain areas of my life, but a lot of people think AI use of any kind is the devil. While this is irritating, what frustrates me more is knowing the real problem is the companies trying to shove this crap up every orifice of our lives. I'm so tired.
