excerpts from The O/utrage Cure, recent book about anger in society. Partially self-help, but concerned with social change and transformation, & also about diagnosing & understanding the type of outrage we see around us. If the world feels exhausting rn, I really recommend reading this book.

If outrage is weaponized to divide and exhaust, indifference is weaponized to ensure obedience. The transition from one to the other is deliberate. Once people have spent enough time in cycles of endless outrage, they stop resisting. Unlike outrage, which is loud, reactive and volatile, indifference is silent. It does not demand anything. It does not challenge anything. It simply accepts the world as it is.
In a state of emotional exhaustion, people become susceptible to the belief that nothing they do will ever make a difference.
Systems that wish to maintain power do not need to convince people to support them. They only need to convince people that opposing them is a waste of time. They are buried under bureau-cracy, procedural roadblocks and cycles of failed reform, ensuring that even when they do fight back, they feel as though they are pushing against an immovable force.
Indifference also grows through normalization. A population that has been exhausted by outrage eventually ceases to be shocked by corruption, scandal and injustice. What once would have mobilized people into action now barely registers as an event worth discussing. When people become used to failure, when they expect nothing better, they stop demanding anything at all. Once the unacceptable becomes commonplace, power is free to operate without accountability.Solving problems is the antidote for anger. Outrage can only be soothed when we start to believe in each other again. Making a targeted effort to show up authentically and consistently can break through indifference, though it can also be shattered by grief.
The lesson from this chapter, however, matters most: Opening our hearts to authentic connection and finding another willing to do the same puts us on the path we have to walk on our way toward the outrage cure.
As a society, it's become a social norm to close ourselves off from authentic connection. We share too little without expecta-tions, or we share too much expecting others to feel our pain while dismissing theirs. We need to share our loss and grief with each other again, taking and giving emotional space in equal measure. Despite understanding biology, psychology and socialI don't know where your story goes from here. I don't know if the person you're thinking about or the moments that passed you by can return. Maybe they will, and maybe they won't be what they once were. Maybe nothing will happen at all.
But I promise you this: If you put down outrage, your hands will finally be free to pick up something else. Maybe clarity.
Maybe courage. Maybe connection. Maybe even a moment when you dare to believe in people again.
You deserve more than what outrage gives you.
And if you put it down, a world of possibilities will open up
to you.

tiktok/x furries who act like fursuiting is about thirst trapping and acting like you’re too cool to be cringe or roleplay as a cartoon animal are just failed mean girl circuit party wannabes. Can’t kick it with the big city queen cliques who don’t need to paper bag their ab shots 😶

It is disappointing to see people I know are really into babyfur distance themselves from us and give very half-assed defences to bigots (e.g. “they’re no so bad, I’ve been to a party once and they werent that cringe!”) I see non-ABDLs giving full throat defences of us. Why are you being so wimpy?

Your favorite fursuiter wears diapers also the olive garden unlimited pasta pass drops in two hours and i'm hyped to get fat on pasta and shit myself also your favorite fursuiter wears diapers

If you’re not going to post about this on x, where the damage is being done, you don’t stand up for us. We have to take the heat for you platforming flame. We have to deal with bigots feeling emboldened, because you stay silent on the platform they spread their hate via your brand.

While I’m on my soapbox I also wanna say: I don’t even really consider myself a “babyfur.” My characters are all masculine and mature. Physical AR isn’t my thing. I specifically am into adults in diapers. But 💯% will stand up for people into that stuff cause I recognize it’s the same acceptance-

I also just wanna say when I was in my early 20s entering furry and douchebags I was friends with tried to be weird about me being into diapers 🗣️ I DID NOT BACK DOWN OR SHOW AN OUNCE OF SHAME. That is how they strengthen their position that you are abnormal and wrong. Make *them* feel weird!

So @barq.app has tactically decided to ignore this demand for fairness, and are apparently choosing to side with bigots on Twitter who call for abdls/babyfurs to be “crucified.” My ask here: don’t just declare abdls should not be using Barq and hate them forever. Demand they actually fix this.

Can we please tell Barq that it is unacceptable that they are only apologizing for hosting a 20 year old bigot as their guest of honour at AC on Bluesky to avoid actually having to stand up to the hateful people on X?

Well, the fear was real. Just lost my job. Gonna take the week for Anthrocon and then go hard on searching. If anyone knows of a game programmer position (9+ years exp, Unity, some Godot, adaptable to a lot), remote preferred or Portland, Oregon, please let me know.
