I’m not sure when Amsterdam airport started having a coffee cart at the baggage carousel - but what a great idea! Passport control usually takes 10 mins and waiting for my suitcase then takes 30-90 minutes at Schiphol. The coffee cart was much appreciated at 7am after flying from Australia ☕️✈️
One of my favourite things about #ICOM is catching up with what my friends are working on! I ran between @frewecologist.bsky.social and @camilledelavaux.bsky.social’s talks. It made me realise we spend most our chats talking about grants we‘re writing, and experiments we’re planning - not results!
#ICOM2026 officially kicks off! My 6th ICOM and it’s finally Australia’s turn to host again (it’s been 25 years since ICOM3 in Adelaide!)
Hey @icom2026.bsky.social! I'm looking for AMF-focused postdoc opportunities in the UK + EU! My talk on combined dPCR quantification + long-read PacBio community profiling for GWAS will be on WED 13:30-15:30 in symposium #15! #ICOM26
The 'heart' of the #Mycorrhiza #fungi #symbiosis is the arbuscule where plant and fungus exchange nutrients and carbon. Try the arbuscule growth simulator. Let me know how you adjust parameters to get the most beautiful arbuscules. schornacklabslcu.github.io/Arbuscule-Sim/
We have a new entry in the climate dictionary under “irony”
We regret that our event on Extreme Heat: Improving governance and strengthening action around the world has been cancelled due to the red extreme heat warning issued by the UK Met Office. Our apologies to everyone who was planning to attend the event.
~1 billion times the distance from Earth to the Sun. That is approx the total length of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal hyphae in topsoils. These microscopic fungal networks form one of Earth’s circulatory systems moving carbon and nutrients. Out now in @science.org : lnkd.in/eKAsVN_Z

Have you ever thought about what mycorrhizal fungi are doing with PFAS in the soil? We know these ‘friendly fungi’ can help their host plant tolerate soil heavy metal contamination and even immobilise microplastics. But PFAS are different because they’re water-soluble and highly mobile...
Coming up on our 1-year anniversary in the Netherlands, and I’ve just experienced a new homesickness symptom… The temperature warmed up significantly here, and I’m suddenly missing the sound of summer test cricket on TV in the background 🥺🏏
Are you excited about understanding the molecular underpinnings of arbuscular mycorrhiza? Then this PostDoc position may be for you: jobs.mpimp-golm.mpg.de/jobposting/4...

I’m in Granada 🇪🇸 this week to attend the Root-Benefit symposium @rootbenefit.bsky.social. What a great community of EU scientists, all working on beneficial microbes to further sustainable agriculture. I’ll be talking tomorrow about #mycorrhiza and #biofortification!
Very much out of office for meivakantie 🇮🇹🍝

So looking forward to having Katie speak in our Agriculture session at @icom2026.bsky.social!
Professor @katiefield4.bsky.social is a Professor of Plant-Soil Processes at @sheffielduni.bsky.social Katie is a Keynote speaker in the #ICOM2026 session on mycorrhizal fungi in agriculture 🌾and food security 🍚, and will present a talk entitled “Mycorrhizal fungal diversity in agroecosystems”.
For years we’ve stayed up into the wee hours to watch cycling’s Spring Classics. Today I got to spectate arguably the best one - Ronde van Vlaanderen. We based ourselves in Oudenaarde and saw Pogi win, but van der Poel (pictured) will always be my favourite!
Meet the team behind #ICOM2026! 🌏Conference Co-Convenors @fungidownunder.bsky.social and @mycoresearch.bsky.social, together with the Scientific Committee, bring global expertise to shape an inspiring programme on mycorrhizas in a changing world. Full Organizing Committee 👉 icom2026.org/committee/
It finally happened. I was asked to review my own manuscript 😅
Quietly pondering how many is too many abstracts to submit to this special issue of JSAE…? I have a lot of relevant stuff being written up currently!
✨A Special Issue of the Journal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, linked to #ICOM2026, is now accepting submissions! 🌽The issue will be titled “Mycorrhizas in Ecosystems” 🍄Abstracts due: 30 April 🌻Full articles due: 31 October Submit here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal...
Starting my morning with a webinar by @aligill.bsky.social on water relations in industrial hemp. More SEM images of hairy trichomes please!
OK, I think I’m done with my first European winter now. Looking forward to any first signs that spring is on its way 🌷
I’ve been in Prague this week to attend the @plantspeopleplanet.bsky.social Editorial meeting. Great to finally put faces to names of the fantastic staff in the editorial office who keep this journal running smoothly, and meet some of the other editors. It even snowed for us ❄️
Submitted my abstract for #ICOM2026! Just a bit keen 🙈
Abstract submission for #ICOM2026 is now open! 🍄Choose from four scientific themes spanning mycorrhiza evolution, diversity, functional ecology, molecular biology, biotic + abiotic interactions, adaptation and management Submit👉icom2026.org/abstract/ #mycorrhiza @mycorrhizaims.bsky.social
Does anyone know when Read & Publish agreements (CAUL in Australia) for journal Open Access fees typically kick in for the new year? I've been hanging out to submit a manuscript to Springer since the OA cap was reached back in October!
