🪲 Meet @bughuntertom.bsky.social. He studies beetles because these tiny insects help pollinate plants, recycle nutrients and keep forests healthy. That research helps improve forest management, conservation and wildfire planning, but recent federal cuts can impact this important work.

Well, I’m shocked. The Endangered Species Act is under attack (again). By redefining the meaning of “harm” to remove protections for habitat, the path to recovery for listed species is grim. It would be like burning down your house and expecting you to thrive. We are living The Lorax. #Resist

Holy shit. Republican Harriet Hagemen got torn apart at a town hall in Wyoming last night. In a state that voted for Trump by 46 points. She tried defending DOGE and it went as well as you’d imagine. “Deport Elon, Deport Elon!” Watch to the end…
Must read: Mahmoud Khalil speaks out for the first time since his arrest by the Trump administration in an exclusive letter, dictated over the phone to his family, from ICE detention in Louisiana.
FRIDAY: Join @standupforscience.bsky.social rallies around the US to protest funding cuts, illegal firings, and censorship of scientists. In response to the attacks, the most important thing we can do is to visually show that science has strong support in this country, so please show up if you can!

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

New work in the @entsocamerica.bsky.social's Journal of Economic Entomology examines an eruptive native herbivore, the baldcypress leafroller (Archips goyerana), in the southern U.S. (aren't baldcypress swamps cool?) and shows they're more common than we thought... academic.oup.com/jee/advance-...

The censorship begins: According to officials, the Trump administration is instructing health agencies including the CDC, FDA, NIH, and HHS to pause all external communications, such as health advisories, weekly scientific reports, updates to websites and social media posts.

This is an incredible image of insect behaviour. One individual (probably male) has its pheromone glands protruding (pair of yellow organs). It's fanning its wings to puff pheromone toward the other individual (probably female). The mating display involves scent and likely vision and sound. 🪳🪲
