A6 Hold an international gathering every four years, get students to compete and award trophies or medals. You could call it the World Olympiad Slam Series and publish the results in a league table. #lthechat
A6 #LTHEchat - appropriately - #ConstructiveAlignment - short / medium / long term? - best we can - iterative design - friends / mentors / buddies - co-creation - chocolate

A6 All learners self-assess their contributions, and that in itself is a real advantage. #lthechat
Q6 #LTHEchat We can use play to change how students experience assessment. Focusing on what we need students to evidence - skills, or knowledge, we can use playful approaches in that assessment. Always with an eye to inclusivity though.
A6: Debriefing, reflecting, creating an artefact and sharing it. It can be self-assessment, or you can apply it slowly in more authentic settings and see what caries over. #lthechat
I agree. A quote I keep coming back to is one by Simon Egenfeldt-Nielson a game is just an excuse for a conversation. As Jorge has said elsewhere here ... it's the bit that Carries over elsewhere we can assess. But not the play itself.
I've used biscuits with students to get them to explore critical thinking and the differences between decribing, analysngy, critquin and evauation a cookie. #LTHEchat

Q6: Given the experiential nature of playful learning, how do you assess its outcomes - Should we?
Q4: What strategies have you found most effective for overcoming cultural or institutional resistance to playful learning? #LTHEchat
Q3: What barriers do you perceive or have experienced to playful learning? #LTHEchat
Q2: What benefits do you perceive or have observed in playful learning? #LTHEchat
Q1: What does playful learning look like in your practice? #LTHEchat
A6 @profpeter1.bsky.social , yes absolutely this!! #LTHEchat
A6 #LTHEchat Think you can assess the outcomes of playful learning - what students have gained from the experience which they can apply to their context. Think trying to assess the process of play or games can be counter productive as it can distract students from engaging fully with their eperience
A6. Student feedback. Depends on topic really as some lend themselves to alignment to assessment. Playful can be used to breakup a ‘heavy’ challenging topic but not directly aligning to any assessment just about an experience. #LTHEchat
A6. Playful learning should be purposive and grounded in learning outcomes which should make it possible to assess how far these have been achieved through effective plenaries as well as student feedback eg clarity points and muddiest points #LTHEchat
Also convincing others to try it even if you have proved it works. As you have said they often feel like you are trying to force a change and so dig their heels in.
A5 Nothing wrong with getting inspiration from somewhere else. It's about finding something that works for you and your learners and the quest can be just as creative as the innovation. #LTHEchat
A5 - cost is a big one! I’m always wanting to expand my kits but it’s challenging with the increasing financial impact. #LTHEchat
A5 #LTHEchat Oh I hear you!! That is a brilliant formula and often the money comes from my own rather empty pocket! 😔

A4 #LTHEchat I do feel very lucky at @universityofleeds.bsky.social - we have a really engaged educational community, and the resources at HELIX are brilliant. digitaleducation.leeds.ac.uk/helix/

A4 yes @amandaseys.bsky.social , it's really important to have an opportunity to debrief following a #PlayfulLearning activity to consolidate learning #LTHEchat
Also, always ensuring a long enough plenary to fully explore and consolidate the main learning points #LTHEchat
A3 Absolutely this @fieryred1.bsky.social 😱 #LTHEchat
A3. Lack of understanding of the value by others. Others think it will take too long to do. Perception that it’s not ‘serious’ enough to have value as a learning experience. Comments like ‘playful learning can’t provide the students what they need for their assessment’ #LTHEchat
A3 I agree @theeddesigner.bsky.social it requires time, usually money (mostly my own!) and careful planning. There's also potentially judgement from colleagues. #LTHEchat
We are such creatures of comfort. Even if the norm is mundane, we have so much going on in our lives that any change could cause stress and anxiety. #LTHEchat
A2 Its a really good way to be reflective on the things we do and construct #LTHEchat
