Thank you, editors and reviewers at @cerp.rsc.org, for a very constructive peer review process. We could always do with an artistic rendition of a pedagogical model :) pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a... #chemistry #education #research #epistemic #conation #laboratory #practice
A5 #LTHEChat in times of difficulty we humans do tend to excel. Smarter is definitely needed here.
A5 closer alignment of the conditions of regulation and TEF is a wondrous gift for combatting all those infuriating cliches about box-ticking and the tail wagging the dog. #LTHEchat
Absolutely! It's been a boon from lecturer to APVC. #LTHEchat
A3 Completely agree with @hintondm.bsky.social about recognising the important role of academic developers and other third space professionals in working with staff (and students) to enhance teaching, learning and assessment #LTHEChat
@suebecks.bsky.social do you use deck.blue? The 4-5 min lag in updating the #lthechat column means that Tweetdeck performed much better 10 years ago. These chats are much clunkier than they need to be. Or is there a better tool?
A3 Move the date of the NSS, give participants an opportunity to develop some perspective. Consider closer (constructive) alignment of the NSS questions and the TEF objectives. Acknowledging Jim D. #LTHEchat
I think a lot will depend on technicalities of how outcomes are benchmarked, particularly wrt institutional mission group, entry tariff etc + how seriously the new system considers equity of outcomes for all groups. But I think it is a good thing a good NSS can't cover for poor outcomes .. #LTHEchat
Come on friends, cheer up, New Year, New TEF, new opportunities. Let's think how the TEF can drive the change we want to see. #LTHEchat
Q1.1? #LTHEchat
A1 - how much influence do you think the TEF (currently England only due to nature of OfS regulation) is having in Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland - is it indirectly shaping your institutional thinking, or does it feel like something that can just be ignored? #LTHEchat
A1 I think the "lowest rating" is another positive step in the evolution of the TEF, promoting a consistent balance across the dimensions of the student and graduate experience. #LTHEchat
Hello everyone - really looking forward to discussion this evening on the impact that OfS regulation is having on how we approach teaching, learning, student support and student outcomes #LTHEchat
#LTHEchat Simon from Norwich. Here to learn about the new TEF.

A5 we timetable a bunch of students in a room and facilitate them talking to each other about something related to one of the intended learning outcomes. The AI might now even be able to suggest some good conversation prompts (questions) #LTHEchat
A4 I started off using genAI to reinforce my own sense of smug primacy in HE chemistry. That doesn't work anymore. genAI has moved on since 2022 and now I have to too. #LTHEchat
A2 benefit: breadth of "knowledge"; limit: if a student talks to a bot they are missing out on a genuinely social interaction. Bots are for when you'd otherwise be alone. Say, 9pm.
A1 it means facilitating conversations for learning; conversations about how to answer, not THE answer #LTHEchat
I think academics risk getting too distracted (taking solace) in what AI does badly. @kjhaxton.com gave us a spectacular demonstration of what it does pretty well (study design) and the transformative potential for the teaching-focused STEM academic at #ViCEPHEC25
If I were to label myself a grande dame would that be appropriation? And is there an equally connotation-rich gender-neutral equivalent?
We strongly suggest that academic publishers and other platforms that host research rapidly implement a Share to Bluesky button for their articles. Here's how: docs.bsky.app/docs/advance... #AcademicSky #HigherEd #Altmetrics

Authors, websites, and apps can use action intent links to implement "Share on Bluesky" buttons, or similar in-app actions. Logged-in users will be directed to the corresponding action view in the Blu...

7 years later and I still whisper, “We’re disabled, Daniel, not werewolves” to myself like a sacred mantra whenever I see a non-disabled person discover ableism like it’s the latest hipster indie band.
