Mini-study of a quietly disappearing feature of our towns & cities. it’s the mid-rise concrete office building with mosaic tile panels of course

Sunlight bathed orange and red mosaic tile frieze that I can hear. A section of wood chip board beneath & charcoal brick underneath that at ground level, red valerians grow from the base of the wall.

Threshold

Had to chip for a short while as I was missing the point. Not sure if it’s been found but outside they have dilapidation and the reassuringly expansive moors which have helped.

~In true Calderdale literary tourist fashion have been cosplaying as some iteration of a 19th c. waiting daughter which naturally called for less screen time.~

Yesterday ruins, vaccary stones, fruit in reach, a cooling breeze

Photo story from yesterday that I didn’t post yesterday because I got lots of likes on a post and became afraid of my phone

Meadowy hillside lined with unusual grave-like stones. Vaccary stones were a medieval farming technique where the upright stones formed enclosures for cattle. There are loads of them here at Wycoller and along the Brontë Way. The stones themselves have become shelter for foxgloves and thorny, twisted trees

The packhorse bridge at Wycoller. Very old bridge comprised of two stone arches over a wide and shallow stream. There’s a path to the right and woodland behind.

This area is next to the ruins of Wycoller Hall, visited frequently by Emily and Charlotte Brontë on their many walks & is thought to be the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte’s “Jane Eyre”. Reader, it was lit
