Really enjoying how this project keeps veering off in its own direction, playful & unpredictable in the spirit of the Mari Lwyd. Embellished this with fuzzy felt, Victorian jet mourning beads, my great aunt’s broken faux pearls & flowers my grandma embroidered onto napkins now too stained to save

Further progress on my submission to @skullsandsheets.bsky.social brilliant fundraising auction for domestic violence charities. Not at all how I’d imagined it, ended up using pieces of a doily rather than sewing onto the figures I added to the vintage embroidered cloth* *Grumpy old cat not included

Progress so far, only the barest bones of the Mari Lwyds sketched out, alongside existing embroidery. Finding the process pleasingly meditative, but the next stage will be more complex & detailed, almost akin to painting with thread & I’m thinking I might appliqué some sections with vintage fabric

Painting in an untrained style of a tall slim white forensic long black hair and short fringe, wearing a knee length, long sleeved blue dress and flat brown shoes, standing waving at two puppets one of a sort of devils and the other of a blonde baby in a red and yellow striped Punch and Judy booth. The booth is on an expanse of sickly green grass, in the both right a man in grey with black hair in a combover is standing with back facing the viewer, arms raised to face as if taking a photo. In the background, to the right of the booth, a red bus full of stick figures prepares to depart in front of a castle with a turret. Behind them, a yellow path leads to two green hills where a coral Red Sea is in the distance. The atmosphere is surreal and a little uneasy, it feels a bit like a painting of a dream. Bought myself a big Toblerone & I feel like I’ve broken an unspoken law of the universe, as if nothing is sacred & there are no rules in the world. They are a present, a thing people bring you back from holiday: one does not just buy a big Toblerone, the same as one does not simply walk into Mordor
