Did u know? You might think that butterflies are willowy, woozy, winged wonders, but actually they're feisty, fierce & fiery. This male Small Copper chased off any butterfly/moth that came too close to his food(Wild Marjoram)& mating patch & even happily saw off a larger Hummingbird Hawk-moth. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🐛🦋🪲🌍

Did u know?As the natural world feels pressure from climate change, pesticide use, habitat loss,it becomes more important to think about the implications of garden plant purchase choices. To help future-proof outside spaces, buy from local nurseries, who care about growing in a nature friendly way. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍

Did u know? This is an insect pollinator that you may not have heard of. It's a sawfly. They're ancient insects, closely related to wasps, but with no sting & they're not flies,as their name suggests.Their🐛also get confused with b'fly 🐛, but they're no relation. Unique & in a class of its own 🪲🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱

Did u know? Moths are more like us than we think. We might not have four wings, but, just like moths, we shiver when we're cold. This beautiful Campion moth needed to warm up by vibrating its flight muscles in quick succession, after I released it from my moth trap yesterday morning. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🦋🪲

I was lucky enough to meet Count Binface when he flew in to Glastonbury in 2024 for anthropological research. I believe it was then that he truly understood the fundamental importance of ice cream. 99 flakes for 99p!

Did u know?Most commercial fertilisers & plant foods have fossil fuels in them(in addition to being housed in plastic),so make yr own. Recipe: large container,with lid;add veg/fruit kitchen scraps;cover with water;leave for 1 week;strain & apply;ratio of 20:1. Easy,f.o.c & fossil fuel free. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍

Did u know?Severe 🔥& droughts have signalled a new era of gardening. To keep outside spaces verdant, drought tolerant, wildlife friendly we need to plant flowers/trees/shrubs that can cope with minimum 💦, whilst still creating food, shelter, shade for small souls who call our gardens, home. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐝🪰🐦‍⬛🐭🦊🦡🦔🦋

Did u know?We need pollinators in greenhouses to pollinate our fruiting veg, but it's also important to make sure they don't get trapped inside. Do a daily sweep & relocate any buzzies who're stuck & need liberating onto flowers in the fresh air, like this gorgeous Grey Patched Mining bee. 🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐝🦋🪰

My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Murderous heat, an endangered food supply, decimated landscapes: embrace the Mediterranean life | George Monbiot

As climate disaster stares us in the face, the radical right says ‘Embrace the Mediterranean life’. Embrace death, more like it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Did u know? This is how important water is valued by wildlife. We have a shallow ground level ceramic dish of water(with pebble insect islands)we put out & refresh every day.Throughout the drought, it's been consistently surrounded by animal scat as they firmly mark it out as *theirs*. 💦🌍🌱🇬🇧🌱🦊🦡🦔🐦‍⬛🪲🐭

Everywhere I look today I keep seeing: 1) deadly wildfires ripping through our communities 2) people desperately trying to get by as energy costs soar 3) record oil & gas profits When will we see that these three things are connected? www.wsj.com/business/ene...

Big Oil Is Reaping Rewards From the Chaos in Energy Markets

ExxonMobil’s earnings doubled and Chevron posted its highest quarterly earnings on record as energy prices soared during the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

This 🐝is a miracle maker:It's collecting nectar/pollen from this female courgette flower, which it'll turn into food for its colony; It's carrying pollen from male flowers,to female flowers, that'll trigger pollination & fruit production;fruit production means food for my family.Celebrate small.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🐝🪲

Did u know?Heat & drought has signalled a new era in global heating. It's easy to feel helpless, but if we create more shade,we protect plants/wildlife/ourselves:group pots together to create moist microclimates;plant small trees;plant hedging;plant flowers at the edges of borders,to cover soil.🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍

The signs of collapsing harvests are coming thick and fast now, but still @andyburnham.bsky.social plans to suck up more oil and gas, pump more CO2 into the atmosphere, and add to the heat, drought, and wildfires that compromise UK food production www.theguardian.com/business/202...
