Everywhere I look today I keep seeing: 1) deadly wildfires ripping through our communities 2) people desperately trying to get by as energy costs soar 3) record oil & gas profits When will we see that these three things are connected? www.wsj.com/business/ene...

Big Oil Is Reaping Rewards From the Chaos in Energy Markets

ExxonMobil’s earnings doubled and Chevron posted its highest quarterly earnings on record as energy prices soared during the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

This 🐝is a miracle maker:It's collecting nectar/pollen from this female courgette flower, which it'll turn into food for its colony; It's carrying pollen from male flowers,to female flowers, that'll trigger pollination & fruit production;fruit production means food for my family.Celebrate small.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🐝🪲

Did u know?Heat & drought has signalled a new era in global heating. It's easy to feel helpless, but if we create more shade,we protect plants/wildlife/ourselves:group pots together to create moist microclimates;plant small trees;plant hedging;plant flowers at the edges of borders,to cover soil.🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍

The signs of collapsing harvests are coming thick and fast now, but still @andyburnham.bsky.social plans to suck up more oil and gas, pump more CO2 into the atmosphere, and add to the heat, drought, and wildfires that compromise UK food production www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Did u know? There's a beaut' badger sett in our wildlife garden with only 2 members. We sprinkle nuts & fruit scraps down every few days so they don't rely on our hand-outs & provide water-our ponds.Their fave food are worms in our compost.Notice the scent marking activities-squatting/ digging 🌍🦡🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱

Did u know? The only winners with pesticide use are the chemical companies who manufacture them. Pesticides are indiscriminate poisons that are impossible to control & kill many animals who come into contact with them. Instead, encourage natural predators like toads, spiders, frogs & wasps 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🐸🪲🕷️🐞

Did u know? This summer has been tough - flower suggestions to help future proof against less rain & greater heat.Evening Primrose,Common Yarrow,Ragwort,Red/White Valerian, Catmint,Tansy,Wild Marjoram. These plants will provide food, shelter & ground cover in our ever hotter & ever drier summers. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍

Did u know?Wasps have had a bad year, due to crazy weather-too cold, wet, hot, dry.Wasps are vital to healthy ecosystems as effective pollinators,"pest"population controllers & as food for larger animals.Support them by growing their fave plants like figwort & let their larval food-🐛munch leaves.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🐛🌍🪲

1. Did u know?As climatic challenges get evermore extreme it's more important to help garden wildlife. Our trail camera shows we have 2 foxes who regularly visit. We put our scraps out for them to feed on & there's always drinking water from our wildlife ponds... 🦊🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱💧

Did u know? With global heating, shade may be our saviour.I was worried, placing veg borders in partial shade cast by trees/hedges would hinder growth. It's done the opposite,it's helped minimise moisture loss & kept temps cool,as well as harbouring wildlife. Go shady in yr own outside spaces. 🌿🪲🇬🇧🌱🌍🥒🥦🍏

Did u know? The Hawk-moth family are impressive moths. The intense heat this summer has meant that there's been an influx of Hummingbird Hawk-moths from The Continent, which has been exciting to see. If you want to accommodate their 🐛,you'll need to plant their food plants - Lady's Bedstraw. 🌿🌱🐛🌍🪲🌱🇬🇧

Did u know? We shouldn't attribute human morals & ethics to nature. The natural world embodies millions of different ways of survival. Some,we might find distasteful, like the way these parasitoid wasp larvae eat their host from the inside, but it's just another ingenious way of proliferating 🌍🐛🪲🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱

Did u know?Having a wildlife garden dishes up many surprises.Even though I let stinging nettles grow in my outside space to host Peacock/Red Admiral/Comma b'fly 🐛, I've never had any 🐛on them. It was a surprise to find a Comma b'fly 🐛feeding on my gooseberry bush. So beautiful - spiky coral. 🪲🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🐛

Have you signed up for the 2026 #BigButterflyCount yet? I did my first count yesterday... and it was SUCH fun. Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns and Silver Y moths so abundant I could barely keep up! Here's the link so you can get started: bigbutterflycount.butterfly-conservation.org

With the #BigButterflyCount well underway, keep your eyes open when spotting differences between species 👀 Tiny white dots on the underside of the hindwing mean you've spotted a Gatekeeper - there are none on Meadow Brown!

Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count guide to identifying Gatekeeper and Meadow Brown butterflies. Cut-out image of Meadow Brown with wings open. Annotation next to it reads: "Mostly brown with patches of orange around the eyespots on the forewings". Cut-out image of a Gatekeeper underneath with annotation: "Generally smaller and mostly orange"

Did u know?Global heating & droughts have created a strong need to reuse/conserve water to help preserve outside green spaces & garden wildlife habitats. Try collecting water when running hot water through your tap; use "grey" washing up water on your non-edible plants & collect shower water. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍💧

Did u know? Our natural 🌍is under pressure because of the acts of individuals who are destroying it by increasing global temps through fossil fuel use.Crops are failing due to the heat, pushing food prices up.Growing yr own food is a fab way to take control back. Sow seeds in pots. It works 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🍓
