In the EU, social media platforms are accountable for their addictive designs. Our investigation of Instagram and Facebook shows Meta has not adequately assessed the risks of features such as infinite scroll, auto-play, push notifications, and recommender systems.

A yellow banner reads “PRELIMINARY FINDING.” Below, large white text states: “Instagram & Facebook addictive designs in breach of the Digital Services Act.” The European Commission logo appears in the bottom-right corner.

We preliminarily found TikTok in breach of the Digital Services Act for its addictive design. Our investigation suggests that the platform did not properly consider how these addictive features could harm the physical and mental wellbeing of its users, including children and vulnerable adults. ↓

We are opening an investigation into Grok because we believe that X may have breached the DSA. We have seen antisemitic content, non-consensual deepfakes of women, and child sexual abuse material. In Europe, no company will make money by violating our fundamental rights. link.europa.eu/Fh8h84

"We are very well aware of the fact that X for Grok is now offering a spicy mode showing explicit sexual content. This is not spicy. This is illegal. This is appalling. This is disgusting. I can confirm we are very seriously looking into this matter." — Spokesperson @thomasregnier.ec.europa.eu

All 19 Member States submitted their National Defence Investment plans for SAFE 🇪🇺 15 Member States have included support for Ukraine🇺🇦. More than expected! And we talk about billions, not millions. SAFE is vital for EU defence readiness and our industrial base. #SAFE

We want to make Europe’s digital rules simpler, clearer and faster. In a nutshell: 🇪🇺 Easier compliance and lower costs 🇪🇺 More room for innovation 🇪🇺 Trust and protection remaining at the core This is the Digital Package!

Grok’s antisemitic output is appalling. It goes against Europe’s fundamental rights and values. The DSA is clear: hate speech has no place online in Europe. We already took action on GPAI risks, including X’s chatbot in March. We are in touch with X: the company must act on its chatbots risks.
