Remembering JJ Pionke
I know so many people knew him better than I did. I think I miss him so acutely because even though I’d known him for years, we finally became friends while I was navigating a deeply toxic work environment. (Trauma bonds are strong). He was a better friend to me than I was to him. We spent a year commiserating on the job search process in LIS, and yet he was so happy and supportive when I found an amazing job that was the perfect fit for me.

This morning's earworm is La Bomba. Better than the Nickelback I had going for 4 days.
Trans people in Iowa : you belong here. You are loved. We will keep fighting for you. Stay safe. Protect your mental health.
@joshturek4iowa.bsky.social your stance on trans people is ghoulish. I am beyond disgusted by you. If you lose, this will be why. People can’t force themselves to vote for someone endangering the lives of the most vulnerable.

On Christian talk radio yesterday I heard a person say out loud that the Russians were worse than the Nazis because the Russians were socialist and at least the Nazis we’re Christian’s. Like out loud into a microphone with their whole fucking chest.

I've been thinking of my next project, but instead I may just disappear into the woods.
Did your library ban Banned Books Week events, displays, or acknowledgements this year? Tell me about it (anonymously!) for an upcoming Book Riot piece. Survey closes Saturday and includes a link to last year's story. tinyurl.com/BannedBooksW...
There's a brand new episode of Liberating Lit this week, and I'm so, so excited to share this conversation with @edrabinski.bsky.social–so many of our conversations in Germany earlier this year helped shape what this podcast turned out to be.

Keynote, “Tending What’s Next: From Overwhelm to Intentional” at Back in Circulation Conference
I had the honor of delivering the Keynote for the Back in Circulation conference in Madison Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago. As you know, I've been doing a lot of thinking about what we tend and what get's our time. So, I used a garden theme, which I think, worked really well. A garden is never finished. It doesn’t respond to one weekend of effort.

And now we breathe. In the last 6 weeks, I gave 2 keynotes, packed, moved, started unpacking, attended ILA, and worked on prepping our house to sell and hosting a BBQ. There is still a lot to do (we bought a house that needs work), but I feel like I have some space now.
