BUGS!!!! Makes for a fun fossil Friday ☺️ scroll to see a great book recommendation for paleo bug people. Insects fossilize much like anything else. The reason why there isn't more in the fossil record is because their bodies often don't survive the length of time it takes for fossilization to occur.
Local #art post featuring @amandalocaris.bsky.social and the Laughing Buddha restaurant. Cool art exhibit show on until April. artsudbury.org/en/whats-on/...

Artist's Statement "From the eyes of an artist, the mind of a scientist, and the heart of an explorer, I have filled my life with Palaeontology. I am so very passionate about the prehistoric world, an...

#Iguanodon has a complicated history. It was the 2nd dinosaur genera named (200 years ago!), but quite a few dinosaurs formerly assigned to Iguanodon now have their own genus names. Mantellisaurus, Darwinsaurus, Mochlodon, and Barilium were all formerly considered "Iguanodon", just to name a few.
And so we come to the end of #fossilfriday 2024 - how wild is that? I felt like this photo of me with this life-size reconstruction of - Megalania estimated to have grown up to 7 meters including the tail. To put this in perspective, the largest Komodo Dragon males clock in at 3 meters (10 feet)!
Sharks eating dinosaurs! At the charming National Museum in Prague. Totally morbid paleoart. But based on one of the few Czech dinosaur fossils, an ornithopod bone crisscrossed with the razor blade bites of sharks.
Bad Day at the Kem Kem Beds A3 private commission. Brief was six Sarcosuchus vs a Spinosaurus. Easy enough.
The beginning stages of art show prepping! I bet you can't tell what prehistoric critter they are 😉😆🥰 🧪 science and art 🐡
So how's everybody feeling about this bluesky place?
Doodles of darling underwater arthropods of the past - do you have a fav? I'm partial to trilobites and eurypterids myself 🦂🪳 #waterbugs #trilobites #eurypterid #devonian #silurian #ordovician #fossils #art #sciart #paleoart 🐡
Hey, everyone! I'll be posting a fossil every day starting TODAY! #FossilAdventCalendar Say hi to Big Al MOR 693: #Allosaurus jimmadseni 🦖. This specimen is housed at Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. This specimen is famous for their many pathologies, or injuries 🩹 sustained during life.
Thank you to everyone who contributes and subscribes to the SciArt Feed 🐡. We have reached 2k Likes! bsky.app/profile/did:...
This morning's blue #PaleoArt, for all the new #Bluesky people, is "Cretaceous Blue Moon." Pictured are male #Elasmosaurus showing off how strong their necks are during a bloom of blue bioluminescent algae. #SciArt #SciComm
#TrilobiteTuesday Here is the Redlichid trilobite Redlichia chinensis from Lower-Middle Cambrian rocks of Hunan Province China.
Zalmoxes sketch for @bkbonesdinos ! You know I had to resist the urge to draw the little dude as a pirate ☠️ 😉 😅 #dinovember #sciart #paleoart #palaeoart #sketch
Reminder- using reference for art is NOT cheating. Depending on what type of artist you are, you should absolutely be using it. All highly skilled pro artists I know use it. Art isn't a party trick, we don't have to be in the business of impressing ppl with the process. Don't hold yourself back.
One of my favourite creations I've ever done - a life sized Meganeura! Did you know this Griffenfly had close to a two foot long wingspan?! 😳 #Sciart #paleontology #entomology #bugs #dinosaurs
I'm certainly not used to writing words without pictures - a work in progress I am
quick little thingo of the new aussie trilobite: Triarthrus novoaustralis trying to be more okay with imperfections in my art, i still struggle with focusing on fine details which dont really add much to the final composition, even here i admittedly do it a bit #AusPalaeo #paleoart #bug #sciart
Here's a stunner for #FossilFriday, just look at that beetle's preserved wing case! It belongs to a group called frog-legged leaf beetles (so-named for their extra-juicy rear legs), paleontologists called its pattern "the most perfectly preserved pigment-based colouration known in fossil beetles" 🧪
49 million-year-old beetle looks like it was squashed yesterday
Paleontologists named the insect "Attenborough's Beauty," after Sir David Attenborough.

El Dorado - the Golden One - is real this #FossilFriday! A magnificent Mixosaurus cornalianus from Monte San Giorgio, with the skull entirely covered in a thin layer of pyrite. It may be fool's gold, but scientifically it's 24 Carat. And made it on to the cover of the special issue🦕🌿🧪
Great talk by Torsten & Christian last night about the launch of the special issue (Swiss J. Pal.) on 100 years of scientific excavations and research on the Middle Triassic wonders (reptilian &otherwise) of Monte San Giorgio - available open access here: sjpp.springeropen.com/articles/10.... 🧪
Leaping Balaur bondoc #paleoart for #FossilFriday. This image follows the interpretation that Balaur was an omnivorous bird, not a "double-clawed" dromaeosaur. The skull is unknown, so the head is based on Sapeornis. Originally created for the first @palaeogames.bsky.social book. #sciart
