Apparently I’m doing this now.

everybody involved with this situation—from the “protestors” to the credulous reporters to the team + league PR apparatuses (but NOT the security people that actually made these creeps leave)—is a mark in the literal sense and a mark in the ‘90s west coast slang sense

The WNBA says asking fans to cover up XX-XY shirts at a Fever vs. Dream game Sunday “should not have happened.” More from Mitch Northam and myself on the situation that unfolded in Atlanta:

go hang out at a ‘90s hardcore/emo/indie rock reunion show (gazillions of these these days) and you will find many hot women in their 40s covered in tattoos who aren’t vile bigots and have significantly better personal style to boot

When a Black person fails it satisfies the societal preconceived notion that allowing Blackfolk to exist in shared space at all is an act of charity they should have been too grateful for to exhibit poor judgment or make mistakes in the first place. It justifies your collective beliefs about us all.

The only conversation worth having is how Black people are overpoliced & over-punished & held to different standards in all aspects of life. That there is an outrage when Black people transgress that isn’t there when their non-Black counterparts do.
