Nearly 90% of people in ICE custody are now held in privately run facilities. Over $1 billion of ordinary Americans’ retirement money is tied to ICE detention via investments in GEO Group and CoreCivic, largely through passive 401(k) and index funds. Major asset managers Vanguard, BlackRock, and Fidelity Investments collectively hold over half that exposure. Report by @MeghnadBose93 ⤵️ Quote Meghnad Bose @MeghnadBose93 · Jan @MeghnadBose93 🚨 NEW INVESTIGATION: Mutual fund and 401(k) holders have over $1 billion invested in ICE detention companies — and many don't even realize it 💵 The 401(k) retirement funds and mutual funds of ordinary Americans are invested in immigration detention centers and private prisons with a lengthy track record of human rights violations, without many of the account holders even realizing it. 💰Mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) own shares worth over a billion dollars in market value in GEO Group and CoreCivic, two companies that operate the highest number of ICE detention centers. 🏛️The Trump administration’s immigration enforcement crackdown is funneling millions in taxpayer money to these for-profit companies running ICE detention centers. Advocates and experts are sounding alarm bells over how ordinary Americans are invested in these corporations, often without any awareness. 🚨NEW: NYC-DSA’s Electoral Working Group narrowly voted Saturday against recommending an endorsement for City Council Member Chi Ossé’s expected primary challenge to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, NY City & State reported. About 52% of participating members opposed backing the campaign. The vote follows a push from Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who urged DSA to focus on his affordability agenda for the city instead of an uphill primary challenge. Ossé responded on X, saying “NYC DSA FOREVER ❤️ I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE.” While an endorsement remains technically possible through separate branch and citywide votes, the report says it is now considered unlikely. BildPeter Sterne @petersterne NEW: The DSA Electoral Working Group has voted NOT to recommend endorsing Chi Ossé's congressional run. A total of 1,205 DSA members voted, with 555 voting to recommend and 626 voting against.
