A short thread on why I am a bit disappointed in the response to the commentary by @wiringthebrain.bsky.social and me. In our view, the subject is an important aspect of consciousness, but not in the Metzinger/Graziano sense. Looking forward to diving into the other commentaries and replies!
We say: "A subject is a living being with interests...subjects with interests are conceptually (and evolutionarily) prior to consciousness". He says: "I doubt that consciousness necessarily involves the experience of being the subject of experience...the metacognitive, reflective form of selfhood."
