💜✊ Human rights defender #IevaRaubiško has been sentenced to 200 hours of community service—for helping 5 asylum seekers survive at the Latvia–Belarus border. 🌍💔 Compassion is not a crime. Solidarity with Ieva! #SolidarityWithIeva #HumanRights 👉 shorturl.at/na8lZ
I'm having a very interesting week at the Polish/Belarus border learning about the border wall, the suspension of asylum, and the work of activists in the forests. Researchers at the border made this brilliant map which can be used as a tool for teaching on this borderzone mapa.bbng.org/en
We brought the discussion abt the EU-Belarus border to @associationruta.bsky.social annual conference, where we shared the reflections on hostile environment & whiteness on the border during the ongoing humanitarian crisis and ethnographic walk in the borderland as a research method

Yesterday, within our 3rd International Seminar, we participated in a guided tour to Białowieża forest to see how militarisation of this UNESCO heritage site destroys nature and wildlife there. Photo by Mateusz Krępa showing the sign of no-go zone next to the border with Belarus.
Discussing borders, migration, asylum, and engaged research in the unique setting of the Polish-Belarusian borderlands—huge thanks to @badaczkinagranicy.bsky.social for hosting this one-of-a-kind international seminar!
Second day of our meeting continues, with participants listening to researchers entanglements and ethical challenges in the fieldwork & continuing their solidarity work started yesterday during the textile workshop „Strenght of Threads”, initiated by Marijana Hameršak
Today, we started presentations and discussions during sessions & over food provided by our local friends from Białowieża. Great opportunity to discuss research informed also by the scholar's own experience of migration. You can join us on-line (link in previous posts). Phot. Piotr Winiarczyk.
