Per @robcrank68.bsky.social #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfTheMonth my best birds of the month (not best photos here) were about the B’s… (more in Alt) Barn owls, Barn Swallows, Bitterns and Buzzards #birds #photography #ECK #ukbirds #wildlife #ukwildlife

I had a great few days in September photographing birds and wildlife in Norfolk especially barn owls. This is a more distant shot of one of the owls in a tree facing an adjacent meadow from where it flew off into the distance but thankfully returned a bit later.

I’ve posted a photo of these young barn swallows perched on a lighting wire previously and have more that I haven’t yet processed. It was a pleasure to spend time with them and watch their busy parents feed them repeatedly.

Over at my local nature reserve I’ve been lucky to observe and photograph some of the bitterns during September and arguably more than ever before. This bittern in flight changed reed beds and gave me a chance to grab some photos as it flew from right to left in front of some trees.

I’ve photographed buzzards in Norfolk and locally during September and this shot of a buzzard with its wings wide open and from below was above a meadow in Norfolk.

🪶 Rob has chosen #BestOfTheMonth as #BirdOfTheDay theme; you best shot for September - Quiet month for me; this encounter with a Juvenile Sparrowhawk was definitely the highlight #birdphotography #ECK #birds #photography #birdsofbluesky #Raptor #BirdOfPrey #Hawk

A Female Sparrowhawk sitting in a field of long grass. The bird is left of centre of the shot, facinf the camera and sitting in long grass so its bottom half is not visible.
The bird has a hooked beak with yellow at the base and bright yellow eyes. Its has a brown head with a prominent white eye stripe above the eye. Its back is brown and its breast and underbelly are whitish with strong grey-brown barring throughout.
Its is looking towards the right of the shot so that the right side of its head is shown.
In the foreground an out focus tuft of grass runs along the bottom of the frame, obscuring the bottom of the bird. Some kind of thistle can be seen to the left of the bird with pinkish flowers visible.
The background is long green grass, thistles and other vegetation

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme #BokehBirds with thanks to @helenbennett.bsky.social - I have a blurry foreground and background! ☺️

Helen Bennett 🌿@helenbennett.bsky.social · 2w ago

Good morning! Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BokehBirds - any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background, like this lovely Long-Tailed Tit. Bonus points for any bokeh balls! ☺️🪶📷️ Alt: #AwkwardAvian - any bird captured in a silly, clumsy or strange position! Happy Monday everyone! 🕊️ 👋

A photograph of a long-tailed tit a small, round bird facing towards the right. The bird has a fluffy white head and chest, accented by a broad, dark black stripe that runs over the top of its head from its bill to its back. A hint of soft pink coloration tints its flanks and shoulders. Its bill is tiny and dark, and its eye is framed by a faint yellowish ring. The bird is nestled among several bare, light grey tree branches that cut diagonally across the scene the one above slightly shadowing its head. Two prominent branches cross behind and below the bird, while a softer, out-of-focus branch arches over the top left corner of the frame. The background is a soft, blurred wash of light blue, lilac and pale buff coloured bokeh, with some bokeh balls from the bright, open sky filtering sunlight through the woodland canopy.

One of those rare #Seabirds that hates getting its feet wet! #BirdOfTheDay

Froure @froure.bsky.social · 2w ago

Are Oystercatchers #Seabirds? Well, if not, at least this one is #Airborne lol 🪶 #BirdOfTheDay

Against a backdrop of blue waves, a black-and-white Oystercatcher flies past an outcrop of rock (bottom right of the image). His wings are outstretched and angled downward at what is probably the elbow joint. The Oystercatcher has the characteristic orange (carrot-like) beak. He is a black bird with a stripe of white across the back of both wings and a pointed patch of white on his back that stops short just at the tips of his wings.

Sue Ibrahim @sueimnw.bsky.social · 2w ago

For #BirdOfTheDay theme #Seabirds with thanks to @atlanticbirding.bsky.social an old, rather grey photo...

Atlantic Birding @atlanticbirding.bsky.social · 2w ago

🪶 Good Morning Everybody and Happy Sunday! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Seabirds; any bird found at sea or the coast Alt. is #Airborne; any bird in flight. - A Northern Gannet in flight #birds #ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #SuperSeaBirdSunday #Stunday

A Nothern Gannet in flight across the sky. The bird is centre of the shot, to the right slightly and flying from right to left.
It has a long pointed bill which is blue-grey in colour. Its black skin can be seen around the bill and eye. It has a yellowish colouration around the head and neck and a snowy white body. The outer half of its wings, which are in a downbeat, are black.
The sky is a blend of blue and white, out of focus and featureless

🪶 Rob has chosen #Pairs as #BirdOfTheDay theme; photos with pairs of the same species Alternative is #Green, in the background not the bird Another Twofer; a pair of young wrens against a green background. #birdphotography #ECK #birds #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #ColorADay #GreenSat

A pair of fledgling wrens perched on branches in the forest. The birds are either side of the centre of the shot, both facing the camera but turned slightly towards the left so that their left sides are showing.
Both birds are quite round in shape with their tails standing up behind them. They have slender, yellow beaks with a large mouth gape. They are brown, darker on the back than on the underparts. They have white stripe above the eyebrow and the wings and tail have delicate barring.
The one on the right is perched on the end of a small, cut branch while the one on the right is straddling two branches, one of which continues up between the birds in the foreground. Another couple of branches can be seen behind the bird in the right.
The background is an out of focus green from the forest vegetation
