💚 Change - Grow - Protect 🌱 Seeking legislation to end the sale and supply of peat in the UK 🔗 peatfreepartnership.org.uk

From Blanket Bogs to Fens, the UK is home to a surprising variety of peatland habitats. While they may look different, all peatlands play a vital role in storing carbon, supporting wildlife and helping us respond to a changing climate. Discover more about the different peatlands below 👇

A wide peatland landscape with pools of dark water winding through golden-brown vegetation beneath a bright blue sky. A low mountain with patches of snow rises in the background. White and lime-green text over the image reads: “5 Types of Peatlands.”

Thinking about going peat-free this year but not sure where to start? 🌱 Last month at the Chelsea Flower Show, our peat-free advocate Sally Nex spoke to RHS-recognised Peat-free Champions to get their top advice. One simple question: what’s your advice for gardeners ready to make the switch?

Beneath our feet, peatlands are doing extraordinary things. 🌍 Bogs, fens & marshes lock away carbon and support unique wildlife like these species here. But peat extraction destroys this balance, and the wildlife too.

Such a privilege to be asked to give evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee on the importance of leaving peat in the ground where it belongs 💚 #endpeatsales #peatfree #gardening 🌱 #horticulture @peatfree.bsky.social

Spring is waking up the peatlands! 🌱 Did you know peatlands are home to a wide variety of plants? From fluffy Cottongrass to insect‑catching Butterwort, there’s plenty to spot at this time of year. Swipe through to meet the species that make peatlands so uniquely alive. ✨

It's ridiculous that the Government *still* haven't banned the sale of peat. Peat bogs are still getting dug up and used for compost and in horticulture. Ministers say they'll ban it 'when time allows'. Get on with it already! Sign the petition: actnow.peatfreepartnership.org.uk/end-peat-sal...
