Why is Labour being so unnecessarily disappointing? They are trashing their chances at the next General Election by demonstrating their ignorance on nature and climate. It's mad.

The evidence was clear years ago - a green economy creates far more jobs than the fossil fuel economy it replaces. Come on Labour, catch up …

"Mediterranean plants can't survive winter wet" a lot of people have said this to me recently worried about drought tolerant plants in a warmer future. To give hope and reassurance, some plants can't survive winter wet without extra drainage, but absolutely loads can! More soon 💞

Great survey from Jack below to get an idea of what copes well with the drought - do fill it out if you have time. I've been thinking that it makes more sense in dry summers to have wildflowers in our urban grasslands as it reduces fire risk

Almost ready for the cut, new watercolour painting I did of the view from our top meadow. I love this view but find it the hardest to paint. Anyway I’m quite happy with this one.

In the last week of July 2026 I ran a simple online survey asking British gardeners which plants are thriving in this year’s heatwave and drought conditions.

I love sharing progress of unfinished areas because it can be so exciting! It takes some imagination as to how it will look but I’m delighted a number of wildflowers have established. Planted into dense grass and nettles. I’ve cut back around them a little with shears if they were too swamped

Our council in Calderdale turned from Labour to Reform in the local elections. This week they voted to withdraw from a sanctuary scheme that was simply a commitment to be inclusive and supportive towards refugees, asylum seekers and others. An act of pure unadulterated evil.
