I hiked the AT, rode the Tour Divide, and paddled the Mississippi. I spend the rest of my time trying to save democracy.

Last night I saw a family of 7 out on a bike tour. They had a 5 seater tandem bike! The other two were on a regular 2 seater tandem. The big one was over 15 feet long.

I was looking at taking the Amtrak to Chicago. I'm picking out the first leg and it's $70. I'm like ok, that's only a tad more than gas, and not unreasonably slower than driving. Then I picked the second leg and realized it was $70 for one way. Lol, nope. I'm not paying 3x the money to go slower.

Got an earful today... apparently the antivaxxers think ventilators were killing people in the early days of covid. Also, something about autopsies. I don't even know. Mostly I was thinking about all the coal fly ash we were breathing in that none of them seem concerned about.

The Los Angeles Police Department let its Flock contract expire after an audit revealed that 161 cars were falsely flagged as stolen in a two month span. Mass surveillance doesn't keep us safe. LAPD must permanently cut ties with this tech and other cities must follow suit.

LAPD was one of Flock Safety's biggest government customers. Now it’s renegotiating its partnership over ‘serious concerns around civil liberties’ | Fortune

The department recently announced it would not renew its contract due to how Flock collects and shares data.

Owners of Prusa printers can be crazy. They will list their used printers for sale at a higher price than buying a new one. I don't care how great your MK4 prints, I'm not spending $1000 on a used one when I can buy the next generation Core One for the same price.

Theory: Microsoft realized that everything they've been doing the last few years has made their products worse, and someone in the C-suite came to the conclusion that laying everyone off will stop the trend by accomplishing nothing.

I'm not sure why everyone is spreading rumors about Mitch McConnell. It's been reliably reported that he had dinner two nights ago with Chuck Schumer's good friends, the Baileys.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

It's so crazy that products on a manufacturer's own webstore are more expensive than Amazon. Hatchbox PLA: $28 + shipping on their site, $21.99 with free shipping on Amazon.
